DLZ currently has an opportunity for a Construction Inspection / Construction Observer throughout North-CentralOhio, including the Marion, Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky, and Delaware areas. This position is well-suited for an experienced utility inspector, ODOT construction inspector, or a recent civil engineering graduate seeking hands-on experience in construction inspection and infrastructure projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all phases of field inspection assignments in accordance with project specifications, plans, and applicable standards.
  • Interpret construction plans and specifications and communicate design intent to contractors.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project requirements, plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Document field activities and prepare daily inspection reports using laptops, tablets, and other project software.
  • Communicate daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and office personnel regarding project progress and issues.
  • Coordinate effectively with residents, property owners, and stakeholders affected by construction activities.
  • Work with project staff to review and document field changes and design revisions.
  • Measure and record installed quantities to support progress tracking and contractor payment estimates.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, and inspection tools in proper working condition.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements and maintain compliance with established safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification - One of the following is required:

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant construction inspection experience; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant construction inspection experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in asphalt, concrete, aggregate, compaction testing, or related construction materials inspection.
  • Experience inspecting water main installation, residential water service connections, underground utilities, roadway reconstruction, concrete construction, and asphalt paving.
  • ODOT Construction Inspection Prequalification.
  • NICET Highway Construction Inspection Level II or higher certification.
  • Experience performing ODOT, municipal, or utility construction inspection.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic field reporting software.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain, excavation areas, and construction zones while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening is required.
