The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our transportation design team supporting projects throughout Colorado for Summer 2027. Our team supports transportation planning, traffic engineering, project development, and roadway design projects for public-sector clients throughout Colorado and the Mountain West / Desert Southwest region. You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that help move transportation improvements from concept to reality. Our team works on a diverse range of assignments, including roadway design, traffic operations, transportation planning, corridor studies, multimodal improvements, environmental documentation support, and municipal infrastructure projects. We work closely with clients such as CDOT, municipalities, counties, and regional transportation agencies to develop solutions that improve mobility, safety, and community connectivity. This internship provides hands-on exposure to the consulting engineering profession and the project development process. You will work alongside planners, engineers, traffic specialists, and project managers while supporting real transportation projects throughout the region. The position offers opportunities to gain experience in both office and field environments while building technical, analytical, and professional skills. We are looking for someone who is curious, dependable, collaborative, and eager to learn. Successful candidates will be willing to ask questions, embrace new challenges, and take ownership of assigned work while continuously developing their technical abilities throughout the summer.

What You'll Do



  • Support transportation planning, traffic engineering, and roadway design projects under the supervision of experienced professionals
  • Assist with the development of studies, technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, presentations, and engineering deliverables
  • Contribute to roadway, traffic, multimodal, and municipal infrastructure projects at various stages of development
  • Perform engineering calculations, data analysis, and research to support project teams
  • Assist with traffic studies, operational analyses, and transportation planning evaluations
  • Develop figures, maps, plan sheets, exhibits, and visualizations using industry-standard engineering and GIS software
  • Review applicable agency standards, guidelines, and project requirements and assist in incorporating them into project deliverables
  • Participate in project meetings, coordination efforts, and design reviews
  • Support quality control reviews and help address review comments
  • Assist with field visits, existing-condition investigations, traffic data collection, or site assessments when project needs allow
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation and take on increasing responsibility as technical knowledge and project experience develop

What We Expect from You



  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Completion of introductory engineering coursework, with transportation, traffic, GIS, CAD, planning, or roadway design coursework is a strong plus
  • Interest in transportation planning, traffic engineering, roadway design, and public infrastructure projects is a plus
  • Previous internship, research, leadership, or related work experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, Synchro, GIS software, or similar technical tools is a strong plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a geographically distributed team
  • Must be able to work full-time during Summer 2027
  • Potential to continue internship through the school year based on performance and business needs
  • Must possess a current driver's license, and a good driving record
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation for this role is $25-$27/hr.
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
