In this role, you will be instrumental in managing a high-volume portfolio of litigation matters, directly safeguarding the company's interests and contributing to its overall operational resilience. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating complex legal landscapes, ensuring effective representation, and making pivotal recommendations that directly influence case outcomes and financial exposures. What you will do:
- Independently manage a high-volume portfolio of 100+ litigation cases handled by outside counsel.
- Review case files, track updates, and maintain comprehensive records within the case management system.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with outside counsel, internal investigators, and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of robust and effective litigation strategies.
- Formulate and present recommendations on settlements, investigations, and reserve adjustments.
- Review and analyze a variety of legal documents, including submitted bills, motions, and mediation statements.
- Collaborate closely with the outside counsel management team to ensure cohesive and strategic case handling.
Core Competencies:
- Proven experience in Outside Counsel Management, overseeing a significant litigation portfolio.
- Expertise in Claims Evaluation & Case Valuation, including reserve setting, exposure analysis, and settlement authority recommendations.
- Adept at Litigation Strategy Review, with the ability to analyze case strategy, review motions, and provide actionable feedback to outside counsel.
- Skilled in Settlement Negotiation & Resolution Management, including drafting settlement requests and making recommendations on claim disposition.
- Exceptional Written and Verbal Communication Skills for effective collaboration with attorneys, adjusters, investigators, and business stakeholders.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Case Management Systems (e.g., Guidewire, Litify, Legal Files, ClaimCenter, or similar) for tracking, documenting, and managing high-volume litigation matters.
- Expertise in Microsoft Outlook for efficient communication and case coordination.
- Strong command of Microsoft Excel for case tracking, reserve analysis, reporting, and settlement evaluations.
- Experience with Document Review & E-Billing Platforms for reviewing legal invoices, pleadings, motions, mediation statements, and case documentation.
- Familiarity with Legal Research and Document Management Tools for reviewing case strategy, motions, and litigation submissions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Premises Liability and Motor Vehicle Accident Claims.
- Background in Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), including mediation preparation and statement review.
- Previous experience in Insurance Defense or Claims Adjusting, particularly with exposure to complex liability matters.
- Proficiency in Reserve Management and Financial Exposure Analysis across large claim portfolios.
- A track record of Process Improvement and Reporting, with the ability to identify trends and improve claims handling practices.
