The Department of Neuroscience at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek creative and accomplished scientists pursuing fundamental questions in neuroscience through innovative experimental, computational, or integrative approaches.

We welcome applications from outstanding investigators working across the breadth of modern neuroscience. We are particularly interested in scientists addressing important fundamental questions about nervous system function and whose research pushes conceptual or technological boundaries. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a distinctive and ambitious research program that advances our understanding of the nervous system and complements or expands the scientific strengths of the Department. Research may span molecular, cellular, synaptic, circuit, systems, computational, or behavioral neuroscience and may address mechanisms of nervous system function in health or disease. We especially encourage applications from investigators whose work brings new scientific directions, conceptual frameworks, or emerging technologies to the Department.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and supportive department at the center of a broad neuroscience community within Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in downtown Chicago. Northwestern neuroscience encompasses more than 150 faculty across the Chicago and Evanston campuses, providing extensive opportunities for interaction with basic scientists, engineers, computational researchers, and physician-scientists. Faculty have access to outstanding institutional core facilities, interdisciplinary research programs, graduate and postdoctoral training programs, and multiple NIH-supported neuroscience training programs.

The Department is committed to supporting ambitious, independent research programs. The successful candidate will receive a competitive start-up package together with modern laboratory and office space and will participate in the intellectual and training missions of the Department and the broader Northwestern neuroscience community.

Applicants must hold a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree and have an outstanding record of research accomplishment appropriate to career stage. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must have demonstrated success in obtaining competitive extramural funding, including an NIH K99/R00 award or equivalent. Candidates at the Associate Professor level must have an established record of independent research excellence and sustained extramural funding. Appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is negotiable.

The expected base pay range for this position is $97,500 - $292,000.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a statement describing significant research accomplishments and future research directions. Applicants should also provide the names and contact information of three individuals by uploading this completed references form who may be contacted for letters of support.

Applications received by December 1, 2026 will receive full consideration.
