Position Purpose
The Senior Associate Director raises restricted and unrestricted gifts for Dartmouth College, including its professional schools, in support of the Board of Trustees' priorities for the institution. The incumbent serves as a charitable gift planning advisor to approximately 800 Principal, Leadership, and Annual gift prospects in the context of a major capital campaign.

* Bachelor's degree
* Eight plus years of experience in planned giving, law, development, financial services, or the equivalent (may include both professional experience and relevant advanced education)
* Ability to maintain technical expertise in tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving
* Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, Trustees, and other high-level volunteers
* Superlative written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities
* Excellent negotiation skills
* Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit coupled with excellent judgement and ability to assess risk
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Strong project management skills and organizational skills

* Advanced degree in a related field (business administration, tax, or law) or rigorous professional designation ( CPA, CFA, securities license)

Key Accountabilities


Description
Manages geographically assigned prospect pool for rating, cultivation, gift plan design, and solicitation. Completes 110 prospect visits annually, often in tandem with senior officers of the institution and development and alumni relations colleagues. Establishes and maintains ongoing relationships with donors and prospects and develops approaches and activities that lead to successful comprehensive solicitation of planned major gift donors. Prepares solicitation and stewardship materials for major donors, based on donors' interests, resources, and philanthropic priorities. Solicits gifts personally and in partnership with others. Evaluates results of solicitation activities for each prospect over time and evaluates/re-evaluates potential for future solicitations. Devises an overall strategy for stewardship of planned gift donors. Identifies prospects to participate in specific events, on committees, or other programs that promote the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process. Oversees the collection and management of donor information and writes contact reports, enters gift planning proposals, and compiles other pertinent information following donor visits.

Description
Serves as a liaison for the Gift Planning Chairs, assisting with class solicitations, stewardship and other efforts to increase class participation in the Bartlett Tower Society. Presents at the Association of Gift Planning Chair's annual meeting over Class Officer's Weekend. Develops an expertise in the management and administration of planned gifts. Works closely with College offices and outside service providers involved with the management and administration of planned gifts, including Development, Legal Affairs, Endowment Administration, Real Estate and the Treasurer's office. Develops an in-depth knowledge of the programs, policies, personnel, traditions, philosophy, and objectives of Dartmouth College and its associated professional schools. Establishes performance goals in assigned development areas, monitors progress against goals and implements strategies to ensure success in meeting goals. Recruits, organizes, trains, motivates, and provides staff support to key volunteers. Participates in long-range planning for the department with the Assistant Vice President of Gift Planning.

Maintains technical expertise in tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving and articulates this expertise clearly and effectively in discussions with prospective donors, their counsel, colleagues, and volunteers. Keep current with best practices and emerging trends in philanthropy. Works alone and with development and alumni relations colleagues, senior officers of the College and professional schools, or volunteers to cultivate and solicit prospects. Works with research staff and others to compile adequate materials and information in preparation for donor visits and other contacts. Performs research and analysis to confirm capacity, inclination, and interests of prospects. Reviews and analyzes the currently identified prospect pool to assess completeness of research, accuracy of financial information, and effective maintenance of prospect profiles.

Participates in marketing programs to convey the case for support of Dartmouth College and its professional schools through a combination of direct mail, advertising, and printed and electronic materials. Prepares illustrations and proposals needed to present a request for support and prepares briefings for senior officers, Trustees and other appropriate volunteers. Articulates and implements strategies for communicating with donors. Drafts and customizes institutional correspondence to specific donors. Communicates and advocates the needs of the institution and promotes active involvement with and giving to Dartmouth including annual, capital and planned gifts from prospects. Makes presentations on tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable gifts to internal and external audiences.
