Working Title
Program Therapist

Position Grade
12

Position Summary

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), within the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, is seeking a Program Therapist to support clinical care across the Division's core service lines. Working under the direct guidance of PM&R physician faculty, the Program Therapist will provide clinical evaluation, assessment, consultation, and treatment services to patients across multiple sites, as part of an interdisciplinary care team.

New Mexico carries a disproportionately high burden of disability, driven in large part by conditions (traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, arthritis, etc.) that anchor PM&R's clinical scope. This position allows existing physician faculty to operate at the top of their license, expands patient access, and supports the long-term sustainability of the Division's rapidly growing inpatient and outpatient service lines.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts evaluations and recommends treatment for patients with acute and chronic pain and/or musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Conducts patient evaluations, assessments, consultations, and treatment for patients with neurologic disorders including but not necessarily limited to brain injury, spinal cord injury, and peripheral nerve injury.
  • Collaborates with other therapists and clinical staff to ensure patient care-related activities and issues are handled in a manner consistent with the expectations of PM&R attending physicians.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates clinical activities in accordance with program protocol and applicable federal and state regulations and guidelines.
  • Consults with individual patients, families, and service providers to develop treatment recommendations, interpret evaluation results, and coordinate the provision of care
  • Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team, receiving guidance, training, and mentoring from PM&R physician faculty in planning and carrying out clinical assignments.
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with program, billing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in educational, training, and outreach activities as needed to support program development.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

See the Position Description for additional information.
