Description & Requirements Job Description
The Division of Neuro-Oncology within the Department of Neurosurgery is a referral, recommendation, and treatment service for adult patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors. The Neuro-Oncology Service Clinical Trials Program is an active research program that includes studies supported by the Pharmaceutical Industry; investigator initiated studies, studies in collaboration with outside universities and NCI-cooperative groups; and SPORE grants for cancer research. The Division of Neuro-Oncology as a part of UCSF is committed to providing outstanding care to our patients, and includes clinicians with experience and expertise working with patients of diverse cultures and experiences. Led by Edward Chang, MD, Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and John De Groot, MD Director of the Division of Neuro-Oncology the program is staffed by a strong group of collegial faculty, with Medical, Nursing, Neuropsychological staff and Research staff contributing to a high-quality collaborative multidisciplinary team. To support the growth within our division, we are now seeking to recruit another advanced practice provider. The APP will provide pre-appointment screening, clinical assessment, treatment, and disposition for inpatients and outpatients patients with primary brain tumors. The APP will also work collaboratively with our Neuro-Oncologist and Neuropsychologists for rehab planning and care management. Clinical services will be provided in accordance with UCSF-approved Standardized Procedures, and under the supervision of UCSF Neuro-Oncology physicians. Work schedule is full-time and working hours will be determined based on patient care need schedule. The APP works with the neuropsychologist/physicians/surgeons/AHP colleagues and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice, including but not limited to, performing histories and physicals, performing quality of life assessments, responding to change in patient status, providing needed prescriptions/evaluations/referral/treatments as permitted under their standardized procedures. Home health services and DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, radiographic or diagnostic requests, specialized treatment privileges, providing patient education, arranging follow-up appointments, and engaging in any approved standardized procedures require that the AHP has OPPE/FPPE processes completed through the MSSO prior to independent patient care. This APP will also play a pivotal role in the development and dissemination of key programmatic resources. This will include the organization of community outreach efforts and patent educational materials, as well as participation in quality improvement symposia and executive leadership meetings. Equally important will be the APP's role in promoting national recognition of the program through clinical oriented research and manuscript preparation at society meetings (SNO, ASCO, ASTRO). UCSF requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through the UCSF Medical Staff Office in order to practice and function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures must be completed prior to the first working day. Qualifications
Minimum License/Certification: 1. California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction 2. California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction 3. California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges 4. NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role Adult Outpatient (A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC). See Addendum A below for more detail. 5. California Driver License (if required for position) 6. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address 7. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 8. Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS 9. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS) NONE Minimum Education/ Experience: Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master's degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). - 2 years in a busy surgical specialty in Ambulatory setting Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 2. Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients 3. Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role 4. Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by health care providers and team members 5. Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider 6. Submit health plan (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial for all APPs; also, CCS for pediatric providers) enrollment by first clinical day 7. At all times, must adhere to the UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct, PRIDE values, and applicable medical center/campus/departmental policies and procedures 8. At all times, must adhere to all UCSF policies regarding HIPPA, privacy, communication, documentation, encounter closure, and billing 9. Mandatory attendance at the Office of Advanced Practice Providers Orientation Sessions 10. Mandatory attendance at the APP Onboarding Committee APP Onboarding Series 11. This position requires flexibility for the APP to work at all UCSF Health facilities/locations 12. Performs other duties as assigned Preferred Qualifications - Preferred Ambulatory OP experience and or In Patient experience in Neurosciences - Previous experience in Neuro-Oncology, Neurology Ambulatory Setting Special Conditions of Employment 1.
