The EnergySolutions (ES) Corporate Office in Charlotte, NC is planning to add to its existing Engineering Staff to support ongoing and future Major Project Group (MPG) activities. The following information describes the Civil/Structural Engineering position description and responsibilities and the minimum requirements.

The preferred candidate should have a strong background in civil/structural engineering and demonstrate the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. The selected candidate will support engineering projects involving heavy load handling, rigging, transportation, equipment installation, temporary structures, and structural analyses associated with industrial, energy, and decommissioning activities. The position will include development of engineering evaluations, design documents, technical specifications, calculations, and field support activities.

General Job Duties:

  • Develop engineering analyses, calculations, drawings, and technical reports supporting structural, rigging, transportation, and heavy load handling activities.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents including procurement documents, work packages, and construction support documents.
  • Ensure applicable industry standards, codes, regulations, and company procedures are incorporated into engineering products.
  • Support the design and evaluation of temporary and permanent structures, lifting systems, transportation configurations, and load transfer mechanisms.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering disciplines, project teams, construction personnel, vendors, and subcontractors to support project execution.
  • Participate in field walkdowns, constructability reviews, and engineering support activities to resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate existing structures, equipment, and facilities to determine suitability for handling, lifting, transportation, or modification activities.
  • Support project planning and execution by developing technical approaches, engineering scopes of work, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring engineering designs and recommendations incorporate safety and risk reduction principles.
  • Manage assigned engineering tasks to meet project schedules, budget constraints, and quality expectations.


Specific job tasks:

  • Develop engineered lift plans and heavy load handling analyses.
  • Perform structural evaluations for lifting, rigging, transport, and equipment installation activities.
  • Support transportation and load securing analyses for movement of large equipment, components, and waste containers.
  • Develop designs and calculations for temporary works such as support frames, lifting fixtures, strongbacks, bracing systems, and handling structures.
  • Prepare technical scopes of work for vendor-supplied lifting, transportation, handling, or specialized equipment.
  • Perform load path evaluations and interface analyses involving buildings, structures, equipment, and transportation systems.
  • Support field implementation of engineered handling and transportation activities through technical oversight and issue resolution.
  • Assist in development of engineering standards, best practices, and innovative solutions for complex lifting and transportation challenges.


Position minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of relevant engineering experience with demonstrated responsibility for independently executing engineering assignments.
  • Experience developing engineering calculations and technical documents in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary projects with limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting industrial, energy, nuclear, construction, manufacturing, heavy industrial, or infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is desirable but not required.
