POSITION GOAL:

The Battery Service Technician is a mid-level level battery system service technician position. This requires a unique set of skills to effectively resolve complicated battery system issues and effectively communicate with customers and upper management. In this role, you will provide in-house or on-site technical support and debugging capabilities for our customers while supporting the New Flyer Service team. You will also support Field Service technicians as a technical liaison for open customer questions/issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Servicing XALT batteries and associated components in Auburn Hills, MI battery service lab.
  • Closely follow the investigation of field application/integration issues on-site and/or remotely.
  • Review service and vehicle data
  • Help answer technical questions posed about our products from customers
  • Work closely with Engineering/Production/Lead tech to participate in root cause investigations of service issues.
  • Support company goals and initiatives related to industry standards for safety and quality (Ex. ISO26262, IEC61508, QS9003, and others)

Requirements

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience working with customers (internal / external) and communicating at the technical level.
  • Experience working with battery interface tools; CANalyzer, CANoe, CAPL, etc.
  • Exposure to Energy Storage Systems / Power Cyclers is a plus
  • Experience with analysis of data to verify pass/fail criteria
  • Working with live High Voltage (potentially 1000V)
  • Working knowledge of lithium ion battery safety, handling and associated High Voltage systems
  • Understands ergonomics, safety policies and procedures, 5S principles

Specific Job Skills

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize complex electronic and mechanical systems
  • Diligent documentation keeping skills
  • Self-driven, flexible and adaptable personality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Builds safety, quality, and compliance into all actions; committed to continuous learning and self-improvement

Equipment / Machines Used

  • Hands on experience with field and lab equipment (multimeters, High voltage PPE, oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers etc).
