THE POSITION

The Administrative Intern position with the Department of Transportation offers students a chance to gain real experience in right-of-way and property work that supports transportation projects across Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship introduces students to the fundamentals of right-of-way work, including property research and basic appraisal concepts. As an Administrative Intern, you will perform the following duties:
- Claim File Support: Assist with organizing plan sheets and maintaining claim files
- Document Preparation: Prepare settlement documents for property transfers
- Ownership Research: Conduct title searches and complete related courthouse tasks
- Payment Tracking: Prepare and monitor payment packages for property owners
- Data Entry: Enter and update project information in the right-of-way office
- Appraisal Coordination: Help prepare purchase orders for appraisal contracting
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- High school internship for the 2026-2027 school year. Internship will run from September 2026 through June 2027
- Work hours will vary based on the agreement between the high school and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (COPA) location but will be between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2026 - 2027 school year.
Additional Requirements:
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
