The Manager, Accounting manages the Accounting staff in the General Accounting department, provides analysis, coordinates and oversees the accounting activity for Scripps. Provides timely, relevant and accurate financial information, designing and maintaining the computer system and internal accounting controls for Scripps, and documenting accounting policies and procedures. Functions as a supervisor for a team of Accountants and is responsible for providing direction, assigning and coordinating work tasks and for preparing performance appraisals and evaluations. Creates, modifies, documents, and implements accounting and operating procedures in conjunction with appropriate personnel.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance plus four years of progressive, broad-based accounting responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal) and successful team leadership skills.
  • Able to set goals, gaining appropriate support, evaluating, directing and holding employees accountable while maintaining high morale and productivity.
  • Understanding of and ability to develop and maintain internal accounting controls.
  • Able to initiate, communicate and implement plans and ideas to improve performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of finance and accounting to ensure the development and maintenance of effective financial and accounting systems.
  • Highly developed analytical ability.
  • High level of personal accountability for accuracy, attention to detail and completion of work assignments.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Able to adapt to constantly changing environment.
  • Extensive skills in using Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • Master's degree in business administration, finance or accounting.
  • Certificate of Public Accounting, Certificate of Management Accounting is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a health care setting and a multi-institutional setting is desirable.
