What to Expect
The Vehicle Operations Planning team is looking for a Production Planner to support Tesla vehicle programs, including Model Y, Cybertruck, Cybercab, Optimus, and Powertrain. Assignment may shift across these areas based on business need. The Planner builds the production schedule from 0 to 12 months, manages mix and sequence, and protects output through tactical recovery. The role also owns inter-factory planning for parts and sub-assemblies moving between Austin and other Tesla plants. Success is a plan the factory and network can run, and a better planning system behind it: redesigned processes, engineered tools and data, and improvements that actually ship. High-level use of AI agents to query systems, diagnose constraints, and accelerate planning work is valued. This environment moves fast. The ideal candidate stays organized through change and can adjust the plan without losing output, mix, or downstream coverage.
What You'll Do
- Create near-, medium-, and long-term production schedules from 0 to 12 months for assigned vehicle, subassembly, or powertrain areas. Plan GA mix and sequence against material and factory constraints; align upstream plans with GA demand, mix, and coverage
- Fold Production Engineering capacity and Supply Chain / Material Planning constraints into the plan, including capacity, lead time, mix, and logistics
- Manage inter-factory planning for Austin outbound and inbound, including lead times, transit, rack and fleet availability, and buffers
- Forecast issues and drive recovery with OCC, shop leadership, Production Control, Logistics, and NPI. Pull teams to act on mix changes, alternate parts, or pulls from service
- Lead cross-functional change management across supply chain, logistics, and capacity models. Map and redesign the planning process and implement it with shops. Do not stop at recommendations
- Treat the area as a system. Build durable planning tools in Excel, SQL, and Tableau, and partner with factory systems so the plan, floor, and network stay in sync. Use AI agents at a high level to query data, diagnose constraints, and speed process and tool work
- Automate repetitive planning work, fix data and system integrity issues, and challenge inherited methods. Pilot better mix, coverage, and constraint logic and scale what works
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Industrial Engineering, Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research, or equivalent experience
- 0-3+ years in manufacturing, production planning, supply chain, NPI, industrial engineering, ora relatedfield
- Systems thinking and process-design aptitude: map constraints, redesign the work, and implement with operations. Bias to automate in Excel, SQL, and Tableau. High-level AI agent query and usageisvalued. MES, MFS, or MRP exposure is a plus
- Experience with multi-site and inter-factory planning, including lead times, logistics, racks, and buffers, or a clear ability tolearn itquickly
- Works well under pressure; strong follow-through against competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Comfortable in ambiguity and frequent change; can adjust the plan, communicate impact, and keep execution on track
- Strong communicationand collaboration with engineering, logistics, and operations. Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptive
