Job Description

The Studio Modeler is a skilled craftsman capable of accurately executing 3-D models and mockups using various media to represent the design intent. The Studio Modeler works with Industrial Design oversight and direction, and with Digital Modelers to develop models meeting packaging and design constraints. The Studio Modeler fabricates and prepares models to the appropriate quality level for product reviews through to full-scale verification model properties. The Studio Modeler reports to the Lead Modeler.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Skilled in working with multiple media to develop 3D models from foam core mockups to high quality hard painted Studio model properties.
  • Ability to read engineering prints and accurately fabricate armatures.
  • Expert in Clay Modeling techniques
  • Experience in exterior and interior model set up, preparation, and development
  • Experience in recording points and sections from scale models and communicating data to engineering and Industrial Design staff.
  • Experience in all levels of presentation, from foam core mock-ups to executive level model properties
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly respond to model or packaging revisions and product changes as requested from Product Planning, Engineering and Industrial Design staff
  • Develop high quality models from approved styling themes.
  • Knowledge and skills to execute a projects design intent from concept through final verification, working closely with the Industrial Design, Digital Modeling and Engineering Staff
  • Experience in mold making, fiberglass lay-up experience, hard part surfacing and fabrication, prep and paint.
  • Experience using a CMM and CAD programs, milling, and digital and manual shop tools
  • Display the ability to work with co-workers effectively. Self-motivated, proactive, innovative and industrious.
  • Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with clay modeling preferred.
  • Automotive, Transportation, or Product Design studio experience required. Heavy truck experience preferred.
  • Experience in 3D scanning/CMM operation required. Experience in CAD programs preferred.
  • Must be highly creative, motivated and team oriented.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple assignments and possess the ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. Must possess excellent problem solving skills and interpersonal skills.

Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
