Position Overview

Position Summary:
Eastern New Mexico University, an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Lone Star Conference, is seeking applicants for the Sports Medicine Administrator and Claims Coordinator combines leadership in sports healthcare operations with expertise in insurance and claims management. This role ensures that athletic programs run efficiently while maintaining compliance with insurance requirements and medical billing standards.



Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processing and tracking insurance claims for sports medicine services.
  • Liaising with insurance providers to resolve denials or delays.
  • Care coordination among staff and external providers, staffing, and equipment.
  • Creating administrative injury and concussion protocols and documentation.
  • Maintaining compliance with HIPAA, medical coding standards, and payer requirements.
  • Supporting audits and ensuring proper documentation for reimbursement.
  • Creation of injury prevention programming.
  • Management of concussion care / return to learn coordination with university staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in athletic training, sports medicine, health administration, or a related field. Experience in sports medicine operations, insurance claims processing, or healthcare administration.
  • BOC Certification or eligibility to sit for the exam, yielding a passing result within 90 days of hire.
  • Eligibility for the New Mexico State License
  • Master's degree in athletic training, sports medicine, health administration, or related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in medical software, EMR systems, and insurance claim platforms. Documentation proficiency.
  • Collaboration skills required. Works closely with athletic directors, physicians, athletic trainers, coaches, administrative staff, and insurance representatives.
  • Must be of good moral character with conduct consistent with the university and state code of conduct.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, communication, and ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.


Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Requires sufficient ability to communicate and exchange accurate information with colleagues, healthcare providers, insurance representatives, student-athletes, and University personnel through in-person conversations, telephone, video conferencing, email, electronic medical records, and other communication systems.
  • Requires the ability to read, review, enter, and analyze detailed information contained in electronic medical records, insurance documentation, claims systems, spreadsheets, reports, and other digital materials.
  • Requires frequent repetitive hand and finger movements associated with typing, data entry, electronic documentation, and computer use.
  • Requires the ability to remain attentive to detailed information and perform computer-based work for prolonged periods, with appropriate work breaks.
  • Occasionally requires reaching, bending, standing, walking, or moving to access files, equipment, or supplies.
  • Work is generally performed on campus in an office environment with light lifting, up to 10 pounds. May occasionally require lifting, carrying, or moving standard office materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.
  • Work schedules may occasionally include evenings or weekends based on athletic schedules, claims-management needs, student-athlete care coordination, or urgent administrative matters.
  • Must be able to maintain the privacy and security of confidential medical, insurance, and student information at all times.
