Shipping & Operations Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Supply Chain
Location: Oconomowoc, WI

Help Us Deliver on Our Commitments

At Sentry Equipment, every shipment represents a commitment to a customer. Delivering on that commitment takes more than moving a product from one location to another. It takes a team that communicates clearly, pays attention to the details, solves problems, and takes ownership from beginning to end.

We are looking for a Shipping & Operations Supervisor to lead our outbound shipping and logistics activities while helping us strengthen the capabilities of our Shipping team. This role will improve how products move to customers, expand the team's ownership of order-related activities, and build consistent processes that support excellent customer service and continued company growth.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who understands shipping and supply chain operations, enjoys developing people, and is energized by finding better ways to work. You will collaborate closely with Customer Advocacy, Operations, Production, Sales, and Purchasing to improve delivery performance and create a more connected fulfillment process.

What You'll Do Lead Shipping and Logistics Operations
  • Lead daily shipping and logistics activities to support accurate, on-time customer deliveries.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that improve shipping performance, reduce transit-related issues, and strengthen customer satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with transportation providers to improve service and manage costs.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify shipping workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve the overall fulfillment process.
  • Analyze shipping trends and operational data to guide decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop standardized shipping procedures that align with company policies and customer requirements.
  • Lead the resolution of transportation, delivery, and shipping-related issues with urgency and accountability.
  • Monitor key measures, including on-time shipment performance, freight costs, and carrier performance.
Build a Stronger Shipping Team
  • Expand the Shipping team's responsibilities and capabilities to create greater ownership throughout the fulfillment process.
  • Develop processes that move appropriate order-related activities from Customer Advocacy to Shipping.
  • Ensure the team takes ownership of shipment preparation, order verification, shipping documentation, and customer delivery requirements.
  • Train, coach, and develop employee-owners as the department assumes additional operational responsibilities.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and measures of accountability within the shipping function.
  • Collaborate with Customer Advocacy to transition responsibilities thoughtfully while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Create clear, reliable communication practices among Shipping, Customer Advocacy, Production, and Sales.
  • Track performance through measures such as on-time shipments and shipment accuracy.
Provide People Leadership
  • Set clear individual performance expectations for Shipping team members.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and development support.
  • Conduct performance reviews and help team members understand how their work contributes to departmental and company goals.
  • Administer company policies and address disciplinary matters consistently in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Build a team environment grounded in ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Make Sound Operational Decisions
  • Approve order-specific supplier selections and contracts within established dollar thresholds.
  • Recognize when a logistics decision exceeds the role's authority and escalate it appropriately.
What You Bring Education and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Supply chain experience, including an understanding of how shipping decisions affect customers and broader operations.
  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment with engineered-to-order and configure-to-order work.
  • Experience using ERP or MRP systems. Epicor experience is preferred.
  • APICS CPIM, APICS CSCP, or CPSM certification is a plus.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Knowledge of purchasing methods, vendor negotiation, and value analysis.
  • An understanding of inventory control principles.
  • Financial acumen, including familiarity with working capital and purchase price variance.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort using Excel, business intelligence platforms, and other computer-based tools.
  • The ability to use operational data to identify trends, solve problems, and improve results.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills across departments.
  • The confidence to make decisions within defined authority and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • A practical, people-focused leadership style that creates clarity, builds capability, and encourages accountability.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means customers receive the right products accurately and on time, Shipping team members have clear ownership of their work, and departments stay connected throughout the fulfillment process.

You will make an impact by:

  • Improving on-time shipment performance and shipment accuracy.
  • Strengthening transportation provider performance while managing freight costs.
  • Creating consistent, practical shipping procedures.
  • Reducing transit issues and resolving delivery challenges effectively.
  • Developing employee-owners who can confidently take on broader responsibilities.
  • Establishing clear accountability and communication across the fulfillment process.
  • Using data and operational insight to make shipping processes more efficient.
