Job Summary

The HVAC Mechanic III is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, servicing, and maintaining commercial and industrial HVAC, refrigeration, and central plant equipment. This hands-on role supports chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, boilers, refrigeration systems, building controls, and related mechanical systems in a large industrial facility. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and experience working with complex commercial or industrial HVAC systems.

Job Responsibilities



  • Troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, VAV systems, heaters, boilers, air compressors, air dryers, coolers, and freezers.
  • Perform routine and special inspections to identify maintenance needs and prevent equipment failures.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and controls-related HVAC issues using appropriate testing equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Install, modify, rebuild, repair, and service HVAC and refrigeration equipment in accordance with applicable codes and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot centralized HVAC and building automation systems, including pneumatic and direct digital control systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records, service reports, and work-order documentation.
  • Support central plant operations and associated mechanical systems.
  • Perform HVAC and mechanical maintenance in manufacturing and industrial environments.
  • Work safely from ladders and elevated areas and lift equipment or materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Participate in on-call support as required.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 4 years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience.
  • Universal EPA Section 608 Certification required.
  • Active California driver's license required.
  • Hands-on experience with chillers and cooling towers.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience working in a central plant environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic components associated with HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA.
  • Ability to work a 9/80 schedule on 2nd shift.
  • Basic HVAC hand tools required.
  • U.S. citizenship required.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with building automation systems and troubleshooting controls and I/O.
  • Experience with Maximo, CAFM, CMMS, or similar maintenance and work-order systems.
  • HVAC maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial production facility.
  • Experience servicing HVAC systems supporting production machinery or specialized equipment.
  • Strong commercial refrigeration experience.
  • Experience with AHUs, VAV systems, boilers, pneumatic controls, and DDC controls.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and basic computer systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
