The Bostonoffice of SmithGroup is looking for a Plumbing & Fire Protection Intern to join our team for summer 2027.



As an Intern you will:



  • Utilize REVIT 3D modeling software to assist the lead engineers in the design of Supply, Waste & Ventilation, Medical Gas and Fire Protection systems for healthcare, science and technology and higher education type facilities.
  • Perform Fire Suppression calculations using the latest calculation software.
  • Perform pipe sizing calculations for all Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.
  • Visit a job site to witness construction progress or perform existing conditions survey.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including architects and planners.



An ideal candidate:



  • Is detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Has strong graphic and verbal communication skills.
  • Is enrolled in a BS Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering program.
  • Has experience with Revit or CAD.



SmithGroup's internship program provides students with the opportunity to apply both classroom learning and past experience to real world application. Interns will participate in hands-on project work, site visits as possible, "Lunch & Learn" sessions with office leadership, office activities, and mentor pairing. SmithGroup promotes a healthy work/life balance for our staff, as well as hybrid work options that give interns the flexibility to work within our vibrant office culture or remotely, as needed. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $23.56 to $25.00 per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week. Our 12-week summer internships are held between May-August.
