Overview

This position is responsible for providing technical and administrative supervision of the Mechanical Design group. The position provides mechanical design support for pipeline facilities, compressor stations, regulator stations, piping systems, and equipment projects of varying technical and managerial complexity.

The Mechanical Design Supervisor performs billable client work within their area of expertise and serves as the group's primary interface with other company departments, outside consultants, clients, contractors, equipment suppliers, and vendors on technical and project-related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Mechanical Design group and provide technical and resource support to Project Managers, engineers, designers, and other project team members as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Project Management in preparing proposals, project schedules, staffing plans, scopes of work, and budget estimates for client activities.
  • Assign and schedule work to meet project and client requirements while maintaining quality, schedule performance, and efficient use of resources.
  • Manage the Mechanical Design group to meet or exceed established profitability, utilization, quality, and performance targets.
  • Take a lead role in growing the Mechanical Design group through employee recruitment, staff development, marketing of services, and delivery of outstanding client service.
  • Actively contribute to pipeline facility, compressor station, regulator station, piping, and equipment projects by developing, reviewing, checking, and overseeing designs and project deliverables.
  • Provide technical oversight for mechanical deliverables, including equipment layouts, piping plans, sections and details, piping isometrics, bills of material, equipment drawings, and three-dimensional models.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with engineering and other disciplines, including pipeline, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and process.
  • Review project requirements, client standards, P&IDs, equipment data, vendor drawings, field information, and other design inputs to confirm that deliverables are complete and accurate.
  • Support field investigations, site visits, constructability reviews, model reviews, and the resolution of design or construction-related issues.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of work performed by the Mechanical Design group.
  • Be responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control of work performed by the Mechanical Design group.
  • Establish and maintain mechanical design procedures, workflows, standards, templates, and checking practices.
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with clients, contractors, vendors, agencies, and internal project teams.
  • Support the development of client relationships and assist with marketing Mechanical Design services.
  • Serve on industry committees and participate in professional associations as appropriate.
  • Administer company policies and responsibilities related to salary administration, training, safety, employee development, workload management, and performance evaluations for Mechanical Design employees.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and career-development opportunities for designers and other direct reports.
  • Approve timesheets and expense reports for direct reports.
  • Travel as necessary to support projects, clients, field activities, and business-development efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer-aided design, drafting, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of senior-level or lead mechanical design experience.
  • Previous supervisory, team-lead, checking, or project coordination experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant work experience may be considered by TRC Management.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design practices associated with pipeline facilities, compressor stations, regulator stations, piping systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable piping codes, industry standards, client specifications, construction practices, and facility-design requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping plans, equipment layouts, piping isometrics, vendor drawings, survey information, utility information, and construction documents.
  • Experience developing and reviewing equipment layouts, piping designs, three-dimensional models, isometrics, bills of material, and mechanical details.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience with CAD Worx and Navisworks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills, with the ability to assign work, manage competing priorities, mentor employees, and maintain accountability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, project teams, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively market and support the growth of Mechanical Design services.
  • Must be self-directed, organized, and able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Expected to provide excellent client service, encourage innovation, promote safety, and maintain a high level of professional integrity.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
