SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The BLE Underwriting Officer supports SouthState Bank's enterprise wide small-business credit underwriting and processing program, Business Lending Express. The BLE Program provides an expedited loan program, allowing the bank to efficiently provide loans to Small to Medium Businesses. In the BLE Underwriting Officer role, He/She is responsible for completing the underwriting, decisioning and processing of business loan applications. During the underwriting process, the Underwriting Officer is responsible for evaluating business and personal credit reports, reviewing and assessing the proposed collateral, completing a global cash flow analysis, determining whether a loan fits within BLE Policy parameters for approval or if there are adequate factors to mitigate exceptions to policy for approval. If the proposed loan is within the Underwriting Officer's loan authority, He/She will make the approval decision on the request. Post approval, the Underwriting Officer is responsible for ensuring that all documents and information required for closing is provided by the Loan Officer and then working with the Centralized Closing Team to have loan documents completed and provided to the loan officer for closing. During the entire process, the BLE Underwriting Officer acts as a resource and support member to the loan officers utilizing the BLE Program, providing World Class Service to our customers (Loan Officers), allowing them to provide World Class Service to their customers.

• Review loan application processing tasks completed by the BLE Intake processor for accuracy.
• Assess borrowing entity and guarantors' credit reports
• Evaluate proposed collateral including soft business assets, Vehicles and Equipment and Commercial Real Estate.
• Complete a Global Cash Flow Analysis, including generating a personal cash flow analysis on each individual guarantor as well as a business cash flow analysis on each business entity.
• Identify any additional information and/or documents required for closing of approved BLE Loans.
• Upon approval and customer acceptance, work with the Centralized Closing Team to prepare closing package.
• Provide World Class Service to internal and external customers.
• Assist the BLE Intake Processor(s) with all tasks as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

• Previous experience in commercial credit, commercial loan administration, commercial document preparation, and/or commercial banking.
• Able to work at a faster than average pace and able to multi-task.
• Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Working knowledge of personal computer, Microsoft Office, and other software used in department.
• Able to maintain confidentiality of customer and employee information.
• Self-starter and able to work independently.
• Good knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
• Basis language skills to write and speak clearly, effectively, and appropriate to business standards.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or accounting. Banking/finance/accounting related work experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
• Experience: 3+ years of finance/underwriting experience required
