Job Description:

The Systems Operations division of Microchip Technology Inc. develops high-performance power management products for space, aerospace, defense, and other mission-critical applications. We are committed to delivering reliable, high-quality solutions that perform right the first time.

We have an immediate opening for a Technician I-Product/Test position at our Garden Grove, California facility.

The Technician I-Product/Test performs electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of electromechanical relays in support of production, qualification, and reliability programs. This position operates test equipment, records test data, and identifies product nonconformances in accordance with approved procedures, engineering specifications, and quality requirements while maintaining a safe and quality-focused work environment.

Working hours will be from 7:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform production and qualification testing of electromechanical relays according to approved Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), Work Instructions (WI), and engineering specifications.
  • Set up and operate relay test equipment, including Digital Multimeters (DMM), DC power supplies, Oscilloscopes (basic operation), Relay Functional Test System, HIPOT Test Equipment, and Insulation Resistance Test Equipment.
  • Perform electrical testing including Coil resistance, Pick up and Drop out voltage, adjuster, resistance and dielectric, and Diode check.
  • Perform visual inspections before and after testing to verify product condition.
  • Accurately document test results, failures, and observations in manufacturing documentation and electronic databases.
  • Identify and report nonconforming hardware to Engineering, Quality, or Test Management.
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic equipment and fixture issues.
  • Verify test equipment calibration status prior to use.
  • Follow ESD, electrical safety, and company quality procedures at all times.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations in accordance with 6S principles.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Assist senior technicians and engineers with test setup, failure analysis, and engineering evaluations as assigned.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining high-quality workmanship.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 0-2 years of experience in electronics testing, manufacturing, or aerospace production preferred.
  • Experience with electromechanical relays or electrical assemblies is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals, including voltage, current, resistance, and ohm's law.
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with standard electronic test equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and work instructions.
  • Ability to work independently after training while recognizing when to escalate issues.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity required for handling small electronic components and test fixtures.
  • Ability to distinguish wire colors and identify small component markings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of IPC workmanship standards.
  • Familiarity with ESD control procedures.
  • Experience performing vibration, thermal cycling, and reliability testing.
  • Basic understanding of relay construction and operation.

The hourly pay range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $17.00-$32.69.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
