State Historical Society

Job Description

The Historian will collect oral histories, produce publications, and conduct presentations on the history and culture of Missouri.

* Plan, conduct, transcribe, edit, and make available oral history interviews.
* Develop content for the Missouri Historical Review, Missouri Encyclopedia, Historic Missourians, the Missouri Times magazine, exhibits, and other outlets.
* Assist with media requests for interviews.
* Conduct classes, tours, presentations, and workshops on the history and culture of Missouri.
* Present workshops to groups interested in the practice of conducting oral history interviews.
* Transcribe existing oral history collections and manage the conversion to digital format.
* Other duties as assigned.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* A Doctorate degree and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
* Knowledgeable of digital humanities and current audio and video technologies
* Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel as needed. Travel will periodically require overnight stays.
* Excellent visual, writing, and public speaking skills
* Experience with Microsoft Office including MS Office and Adobe products.
* Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the history of Missouri and the Midwest.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $55,592 - $60,764 per year

Grade: GGS 09E
