JOB SUMMARY

A Plant Accounting Manager at Doble Engineering will be responsible for leading all cost and inventory accounting responsibilities at our Accident, Maryland facility. This role serves as a key business partner to plant and finance leadership, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective inventory management, and actionable financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.

This role will oversee manufacturing accounting processes, including standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close activities. This position partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Corporate Finance to drive financial performance, improve cost visibility, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This role will be based at Doble's Accident, MD office reporting to the Business Unit Controller in Ontario, CA.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Lead all plant accounting and manufacturing accounting activities, including inventory valuation, standard costing, absorption costing, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance through review of labor, material, overhead, production, yield, scrap, and inventory variances.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of inventory accounting processes and cost allocations.
  • Oversee physical inventory counts, cycle count programs, inventory reconciliations, and inventory adjustment reviews.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, identify root causes, and coordinate corrective actions with operational teams.
  • Monitor raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory balances and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and inventory management procedures.
  • Act as a key finance business partner to plant management and operational leaders.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, supply chain, and procurement teams to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze production yields, waste, throughput, material usage, formulas, recipes, labor productivity, and manufacturing efficiency metrics.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and provide recommendations to achieve business objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Finance or Accounting, or a combination of experience, education and training equivalent to a four-year degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant manufacturing and cost accounting responsibilities.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment required; consumer products, industrial, or process manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Standard costing
    • Inventory accounting and valuation
    • Cost of goods sold analysis
    • Manufacturing variance analysis
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Financial statement preparation and analysis


  • Experience supporting physical inventories, cycle count programs, and inventory control processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Business Central, Microsoft Dynamics or SAP preferred.

TRAVEL



  • Position will require occasional travel between Accident, MD and Doble Headquarters in Marlborough, MA.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
Salary Pay Range Minimum $112,569.10 - Midpoint $140,711.37
