Reporting To: Production Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Machine Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating manufacturing equipment to cut, drill, grind, mill, bend, and shape materials used in the production of industrial generators.

This position requires the ability to read and follow shop drawings, work orders, and production specifications, as well as accurately measure parts using precision measuring instruments. The Machine Operator is responsible for maintaining quality, minimizing material waste, meeting production requirements, and keeping equipment and work areas safe and organized.

Depending on the assigned production area, equipment may include CNC lasers, press brakes, benders, drills, mills, grinders, saws, and other manufacturing machinery.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate a variety of manufacturing machinery according to established procedures, production schedules, and job requirements.
  • Operate equipment to cut, drill, grind, mill, bend, form, and shape materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, work orders, and production specifications.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine settings based on job requirements.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment to verify part dimensions.
  • Monitor machine operations and make appropriate adjustments to maintain production quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect completed parts for accuracy, defects, and compliance with established quality standards.
  • Identify and communicate material, equipment, or quality issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, inspections, and basic troubleshooting as required.
  • Properly handle and position raw materials and finished components using approved tools and equipment.
  • Follow production processes and best practices to minimize material waste and maximize productivity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Complete required production, quality, and maintenance documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Work effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other team members to meet production goals.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous machine operating, fabrication, machining, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment such as CNC lasers, press brakes, benders, drills, mills, grinders, saws, or similar equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, blueprints, work orders, and written instructions.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to learn machine operation, tooling, and production processes.
  • Ability to identify ways to reduce material waste through proper material utilization and machine operation.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot routine equipment issues.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs. It often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in varied weather conditions and noise levels. Position works in an industrial manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to welding fumes, sparks, heat, smoke, dust, industrial noise, moving equipment, chemicals, and varying temperatures. Proper PPE and safety procedures are required. This list is not meant to cover every possible scenario but simply provides an outline. Employees may be assigned other tasks as needed.
