PostDoctoral Associate

The Azevedo Laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder investigates the neural and molecular mechanisms through which the brain integrates internal physiological states, environmental challenges, and stress to regulate feeding, metabolism, and motivated behavior. Current projects examine neural circuits involved in stress-induced metabolic dysfunction, obesity, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other disorders involving altered feeding and energy balance.

• Conduct research examining the neural and molecular mechanisms that regulate feeding behavior, stress responses, and metabolic function.
• Design and conduct experiments using mouse models, behavioral neuroscience, molecular and genetic approaches, neural-circuit manipulation and recording techniques, and quantitative data analysis.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, maintain detailed experimental records, contribute to manuscript and grant preparation, present research findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences, and participate in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and other laboratory personnel.
• Encouraged to develop independent research questions and pursue fellowship and career-development funding.

The anticipated start date for this position is October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The start date can be flexible based on the selected candidate's availability and completion of required pre-employment processes.

• The annual salary for this full-time position is $69,500.
• A relocation/moving incentive up to $5000 may be available for the selected candidate, subject to University of Colorado Boulder policies and approval.

• PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, physiology, biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field by the anticipated start date.
• Previous experience conducting independent biomedical or neuroscience research.
• Experience designing experiments, analyzing quantitative data, and interpreting scientific results.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific findings through manuscripts, presentations, or other scholarly work.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to experimental rigor, reproducibility, and research documentation.

• Ability and willingness to work with laboratory mice and perform animal-based research.
• Ability to learn and implement new experimental and analytical techniques.
• Strong scientific writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple experiments and research priorities.
• Commitment to responsible conduct of research and compliance with institutional animal care, biosafety, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, research staff, and external collaborators.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:

• Stereotaxic surgery and intracranial viral-vector delivery.
• Fiber photometry, optogenetics, or chemogenetics experience.
• Mouse behavioral assays related to feeding, motivation, stress, anxiety, or reward.
• Metabolic phenotyping, including measurements of food intake, body composition, glucose homeostasis, or energy expenditure.
• A record of peer-reviewed publications and interest in developing an independent scientific research program.
