Pay Rate: $30.00 - $60.00 / HR

Position Overview:

The Service Technician IV is an advanced-level technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles. This role handles complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, electronic, and vehicle system concerns that require a high level of technical knowledge, diagnostic capability, and independent problem-solving.


In addition to performing advanced repairs, the Service Technician IV serves as a technical resource for other technicians and works closely with shop leadership to troubleshoot difficult repairs, identify root causes, maintain quality standards, and improve overall service efficiency. This position is ideal for an experienced technician who takes pride in solving challenging problems, sharing technical knowledge, and staying current with evolving commercial vehicle technologies.

In this role, you'll make an impact by:


  • Accurately diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and electronic system concerns that maximize vehicle uptime and minimize repeat repairs.
  • Taking ownership of challenging repairs from initial diagnosis through successful completion and verification.
  • Serving as a trusted technical resource for fellow technicians by sharing knowledge, troubleshooting difficult concerns, and helping strengthen the capabilities of the Service team.
  • Using advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis to identify recurring issues and develop effective, long-term repair solutions.
  • Delivering consistently high-quality workmanship while maintaining safety, documentation, and operational standards.
  • Continuously expanding your expertise across diesel, electrical, diagnostic, EV/high-voltage, and emerging commercial vehicle technologies.



Key Responsibilities:


Advanced Diagnostics & Repair


  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain motorcoaches, commercial vehicles, and other equipment as assigned.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics across diesel, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, electronic, and integrated vehicle systems.
  • Diagnose complex or intermittent vehicle concerns using technical documentation, schematics, diagnostic equipment, software, and established troubleshooting procedures.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve recurring mechanical, electrical, and system-related concerns.
  • Complete complex repairs efficiently while maintaining ABC Companies' quality and safety standards.
  • Verify completed repairs and confirm proper vehicle operation before returning equipment to service.
  • Identify required parts, components, and materials necessary to complete repairs and coordinate with Parts personnel as needed.



Technical Leadership & Team Support


  • Serve as a technical resource for Service Technicians I-III, providing guidance and assistance with diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex repairs.
  • Partner with the Shop Foreman and Service leadership to troubleshoot difficult vehicle concerns and determine appropriate repair strategies.
  • Share technical knowledge, repair techniques, and diagnostic best practices with other technicians.
  • Help promote consistent repair quality and effective troubleshooting practices throughout the shop.
  • Support the development of less-experienced technicians through hands-on technical guidance and knowledge sharing.



Documentation & Quality


  • Clearly and accurately document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts utilized, and other required information on work orders using shop computer systems and associated software.
  • Maintain accurate time and attendance reporting.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with manufacturer procedures, technical specifications, and company standards.
  • Maintain attention to repair quality and help identify opportunities to reduce repeat repairs and improve service performance.



Safety, Compliance & Continuous Development


  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and established repair practices.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain required certifications and continuously develop technical knowledge across emerging commercial vehicle systems, diagnostic technologies, and repair techniques.

  • Travel and work overtime or weekends when required to support operational and customer needs.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.



Qualifications:


  • 5-10 years of motorcoach, diesel, or heavy commercial vehicle service and repair experience required.
  • Advanced experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel equipment strongly preferred, including motorcoaches, transit buses, tractor-trailers, heavy equipment, or similar commercial vehicles.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and electronic vehicle systems.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and resolving complex or recurring vehicle concerns.
  • High-voltage and electric vehicle (EV) experience highly valued. Candidates with significant EV/high-voltage diagnostic and repair experience may be considered with less motorcoach-specific experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, technical documentation, and diagnostic information.
  • Proven ability to serve as a technical resource to other technicians and provide effective hands-on guidance.
  • Previous senior technician, lead technician, or similar technical leadership experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with body and frame repairs and interior component repair/replacement.
  • Audio/video system knowledge preferred but not required.
  • EPA refrigerant certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Proficiency with computers, diagnostic software, service writing systems, work order tracking systems, and other shop technology.
  • Must possess the tools necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement preferred.
  • ASE, Cummins, Detroit, Allison, HVAC, EV/high-voltage, or other relevant technical certifications preferred.

Physical Demands:


  • Ability to move items weighing at least 100 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and move continuously for extended periods of time (80-100% of shift).
  • Ability to safely enter, exit, and work around motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other service equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors for extended periods and in varying environmental conditions.
