Location: Remote/Virtual - Must work and live in the state of MI

Purpose: The Tribal Nations Outreach Specialist serves as a liaison between Michigan's 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, the broader behavioral health crisis system, and Michigan's federally recognized Tribal Nations. This position is responsible for fostering relationships, supporting collaboration, facilitating communication, and promoting culturally responsive practices that strengthen access to crisis services for tribal communities across Michigan. The specialist works closely with Tribal Nations, tribal health providers, crisis service providers, state agencies, and community partners to increase awareness of 988 and related crisis services, improve coordination of care, and support equitable access to behavioral health crisis resources.

• Coordinate and collaborate with Michigan's federally recognized Tribal Nations to strengthen awareness of 988 and crisis services.
• Coordinate and collaborate with the Office of Tribal Government Services and Policy within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
• Work with the Office of Tribal Government Services and Policy to develop and maintain relationships with Tribal Nations, tribal health centers, tribal leaders, and community partners.
• Serve as a liaison between 988 centers, crisis service providers, tribal health centers, and stakeholders.
• Facilitate outreach, presentations, and educational activities related to 988 and crisis services.
• Participate in statewide initiatives related to 988, crisis services, tribal engagement, and suicide prevention.
• Provide training and technical assistance for 988 staff and other behavioral health crisis service providers related to tribal resources and culturally responsive practices.
• Support the development and maintenance of tribal-specific resources and referral pathways related to 988 and behavioral health crisis services.
• Maintain tribal resources, services, and referral options information in the Behavioral Health CRM.
• Assist with data collection, reporting, and quality improvement activities.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and other program materials.
• Represent MDHHS and Michigan's 988 and behavioral health crisis system at meetings, conferences, and community events.
• Represent the best interests of MPHI and MDHHS at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, behavioral health, public administration, community development, cultural studies, or a related field.

Experience: Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with Tribal Nations, tribal organizations, tribal health centers, tribal health systems, or tribal communities, preferably within Michigan. Knowledge of tribal sovereignty, tribal governance structures, and the unique strengths, needs, and priorities of tribal communities. Experience in outreach, engagement, partnership development, training, community relations, behavioral health, public health, crisis services, or a related field. Knowledge of Michigan's behavioral health, crisis services, and 988 systems preferred. Experience coordinating projects, initiatives, stakeholder engagement activities, or cross-system collaborations preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: May require limited in-state travel. Requires a valid vehicle operator's license and access to a vehicle to attend off-site meetings, conferences and trainings.

For purposes of employment standards, this classification is "Exempt" from overtime provisions of the fair Labor Standards Act.
