Yard Loader Operator

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Strong understanding of workplace safety practices

Experience Requirements

• Previous forklift experience required
• 1 year of experience in a steel yard, warehouse, manufacturing, shipping, or material-handling environment
• Experience loading trailers and securing freight is a plus
• Yard dog or terminal tractor experience preferred
• Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and steel materials

• Knowledge of load securement procedures and material staging practices

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required
• Ability to climb on and off semi-trailers throughout the shift
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical labor for extended periods
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions
• Ability to safely work around moving equipment, trailers, and steel products
• Able to lift 50 lbs. + steel-toe boots

Job Duties

• Operate forklifts daily to move, organize, and stage steel materials
• Prepare materials for shipment and load trailers efficiently and safely
• Verify all materials and quantities before trailers are released for shipment
• Secure loads using straps and other approved load-securing methods
• Maintain a clean, organized, and debris-free yard and work area
• Position, move, and organize trailers within the yard as needed
• Communicate load status, completed tasks, and shipping updates to supervisors
• Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
• Assist with additional yard, shipping, and material-handling duties as assigned
