Position encompasses the staffing, supervision, direction, training and evaluation of an assigned production team. Directs and controls multiple production operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Manufacturing Manager to efficiently prioritize team efforts and to assure that quality and shipments are met and data integrity requirements are accomplished.
  • Ensures all phases of manufacturing are being performed safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Support site safety programs by leading and coaching employees on all Avient EH&S Guidelines.
  • Identifies and resolves issues with equipment and/or personnel.
  • Recommends and drives formula improvements, equipment, and engineering revisions.
  • Openly communicates with Supply Chain Planning, Quality/Lab, Maintenance and Warehouse support groups to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate production documentation, as required.
  • Coordinates, directs, and documents all employee training.
  • Complies with and enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures consistent and maximum throughput while maintaining acceptable quality.
  • Ensures efficient use of staffing by effectively planning coverage for employees' paid time off and arranging necessary coverage for unexpected absences.
  • Ensures that product loss and scrap production are minimized.
  • Completes performance appraisals of employees. Documents and communicates appropriate and timely feedback to employees. Communicates all Company objectives, goals and expectations to employees.
  • Ensures complete, accurate, and timely information is entered into SAP.
  • Ensures production supply inventories are maintained and notifies the appropriate purchasing associates when items need to be restocked.
  • Reviews and corrects employees' timekeeping information in ADP.
  • Ensures that employee attendance issues are properly documented and any discipline follow's the Company's attendance policy.
  • Coordinates with other Production Supervisors to provide seamless shift turnover and appropriate staffing.
  • Ensures plant production-area housekeeping is always maintained in a "tour-ready" state in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Will be expected to work flexible schedule, overtime and weekends as needed.

Physical/Environ. Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to walk. The associate is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities may be required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud.

Typically reports to Manufacturing Manager, Plant Manager or equivalent.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or minimum twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior Supervisory and/or Leadership experience, strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated aptitude to motivate employees, leadership by example and work habits, make prompt and competent decisions, use authority wisely and maintain discipline, morale and teamwork at high standard; demonstrated commitment to high level of ownership of safety, hygiene, quality and 5S practices

  • Prior success of coaching, motivating, and holding employees accountable.

  • Prior Lean Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Chemical batch mixing experience preferred, but not required

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required; must be able to communicate at all levels of the organization

  • Must be able to work independently under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented, ever-changing manufacturing environment

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
