Position Summary
UNC Department of Family Medicine is establishing the North Carolina Rural Residency Training Collaborative for Agricultural Health, a statewide academic learning collaborative designed to strengthen rural health workforce preparation and retention. The collaborative brings together medical, dental, behavioral health, public health, and allied health training programs with agricultural health-focused community organizations, including the NC DHHS Office of Rural Health Farmworker Health Program and the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute. Family medicine serves as the organizing discipline for this rural, community-centered initiative. This is a one-time, nonrenewable two-year Innovation Grant pilot focused on development-phase outcomes, including: documenting existing rural and agricultural health training across North Carolina; identifying training gaps and redundancies; and producing consensus-based competencies, curricula, and faculty resources for family physicians and interprofessional trainees. The project is designed to create sustainable infrastructure within existing training systems rather than ongoing programming. Accordingly, no continued funding is anticipated beyond the two-year grant period. The Program Manager will oversee day-to-day operations of the collaborative, working closely with Dr. Moore and a statewide steering committee. In Year 1, the position will focus on launching the collaborative, developing governance structures, engaging partners, and establishing communication and evaluation processes. In Year 2, the Program Manager will lead curriculum inventory, statewide assessment and gap analysis, competency development, consensus-building activities, and dissemination efforts.

Key Responsibilities
Lead formation and launch of the Steering Committee.
Develop the project charter, including membership structure, roles, communication processes, file-sharing systems, and project management plans.
Facilitate development of a Theory of Change to guide collaborative outcomes and priorities.
Implement partner engagement and process evaluation plans.
Build and maintain partner networks across academic and community organizations.
Coordinate outreach, communications, and annual convening activities.
Conduct literature reviews of agricultural and rural health education models, competencies, and best practices.
Coordinate development and implementation of a statewide curriculum inventory across disciplines and training sites.
Manage workgroups and track project progress and deliverables.
Analyze findings to identify gaps, overlaps, promising practices, and opportunities for integrated training.
Prepare statewide gap analysis reports and actionable recommendations.
Facilitate stakeholder review and validation of findings.
Support workgroups in drafting core competencies.
Manage the Delphi consensus process, including dissemination, feedback collection, and reporting.
Develop resources and implementation strategies to support adoption of competencies across participating programs.
Assess feasibility, relevance, and implementation readiness of finalized competencies.
Track milestones, deliverables, timelines, and reporting requirements.
Maintain collaborative documentation, communication channels, and file-sharing systems.
Prepare progress reports and materials for the funding agency.
Support sustainability planning, including strategic partnerships and identification of future funding opportunities.
Assist with development of grant proposals and other funding applications to expand or sustain collaborative initiatives.

Work Environment
Based at UNC Department of Family Medicine, with regular travel across the statewide rural training network and to partner organizations across North Carolina.
Some evening/weekend availability may be needed. Hybrid/flexible scheduling within the 20 hours/week is available.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences

  • Experience in program or project coordination, ideally in academic medicine, medical education, public health, or rural health.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-site, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Strong written communication skills as this role involves drafting charters, engagement plans, meeting agendas, and consensus-building materials.
