Position Overview

ChristianaCare is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Environmental Services Associate I to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for our patients, visitors, and caregivers. This role is essential in supporting infection prevention efforts and ensuring that all hospital areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain patient care areas, offices, and ancillary hospital spaces according to established standards.
  • Ensure all Environmental Services carts and equipment are clean, organized, and safely maintained.
  • Remove empty boxes and debris from carts, closets, and work areas.
  • Maintain Environmental Services closets in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Stock and replenish paper products and soap supplies throughout the hospital.
  • Clean and disinfect isolation and precaution rooms in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Collect and transport trash and soiled linen from assigned areas.
  • Remove bulk trash and transport it to designated compactor locations.
  • Respond promptly to Environmental Services calls, texts, and electronic work assignments.
  • Utilize department-issued smartphones or mobile devices for daily assignments and communication.
  • Report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, and safety hazards to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Attend required department in-service training and educational programs.
  • Adhere to all departmental safety policies and infection prevention guidelines.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience & Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, mobile devices, and email for work assignments and communication.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cleanliness, safety, and infection prevention practices.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull supplies, equipment, and waste materials as required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with environmental cleaning services.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases when appropriate safety precautions are not followed.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses at all times.
  • Compliance with all hospital safety and infection control protocols is required.
This position has a starting rate of $17.80 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.90 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.93 per hour. This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
