Summary:

The Materials Management Technician inventories and resupplies medical supply inventories in multiple departmentsthroughout the hospital. Provides clean and functional patient care equipment to all clinical areas. In addition, theMaterials Management Technician helps maintain the quick pick inventory area of the Store Room by receiving,labeling, date checking, and cycle counting the supplies that flow in and out of the quick pick area. Other dutiesinclude: management of supplies for Code, Swan Ganz, Pacemaker and Bone Marrow carts.

Responsibilities:

  • 1. Organizes own work activities to ensure their proper completion in a timely manner.
  • a. Manages time effectively by assigning priority to work activities.
  • b. Adheres to the procedural guidelines recorded withing the Standard of Work for Materials Management Technicians.
  • c. Understands the importanct of their role to the overall success of the hospital.
  • d. Completes duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • e. Prioritizes responsibilities to ensure completion of duties.
  • f. Demonstrates knowledge of the overall dunction of the Materials Management Department.
    • 2. Inventories and restocks PAR locations and OR Supply Rooms according to predetermined inventory levels.
    • a. Inventories supplies maintained in PAR locations daily or as scheduled to determine supply
      needs.
    • b. Picks the supplies necessary to replenish PAR levels in multiple inventory locations.
    • c. Assures the correct supplies are neatly stocked in the correct quantities and that charge labels are affixed when/where applicable.
    • d. PAR locations are accurately inventtoried and restocked on a regular basis to ensure adequate supplies are readily available for clinical staff.
    • 3. Assists with inventory auditing processes to ensure the accuracy of the hospital's supply chain operation.
      • Perform weekly/monthly cycle count activities in the Central Store Room and all other PAR locations managed by Materials Management Department.
      • Evaluate expiration dates in the Central Store Room and all other PAR locations managed by Materials Management Department.
      • Periodic cycle counting and expiration date checks help maintain the accuracy of inventory levels and confirms the value of inventory on hand. these processes help align the physical count with what is recorded in the Materials Management Information System.
    • 4. Maintains a sufficient inventory of clean, functional equipment.
      • Inspects equipment daily or as assigned for any damage or missing parts
      • Transports damaged equipment to Clinical Engineering for repair.
      • Cleans equipment with appropriate chemicals necessary to sanitize equipment safely and effectively.
      • Bands cleaned equipment for easy identification.
      • A sufficient inventory of equipment is maintained at all times in a logical, systematic, and clearly labeled manner.
    • 5. Delivers and retrieves patient equipment as needed.
    • a. Performs daily checks of nursing areas to collect equipment in need of cleaning and/or service.
    • b. Transports equipment safely.
    • c. Equipment is transported in a safe manner. Nursing areas are checked throughout day for recovery.
    • EDUCATION
      • High school graduate or equivalent
    • EXPERIENCE
      • Experience in the areas of Materials Management or nursing would be beneficial.

    • OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
      • Simple mathematical skills, basic computer skills, effective communication skills, and manual dexterity.
