National Grid is hiring a Senior System Integration Engineer - Successful candidate can be located in either our Waltham, MA, Boston, MA, or our Brooklyn, NY office.

Job Purpose

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to join our Grid Integration and Planning Team. This individual will support NGV projects by performing transmission planning and interconnection analyses across markets including MISO, PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, and others. The role will develop technical assessments that support interconnection strategies, project development efforts, and key business decisions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with project development, engineering, and other internal stakeholders to support NGV's growing portfolio of energy infrastructure projects.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform transmission planning studies and power system analyses to support generation, transmission, and energy storage project development.
  • Support interconnection activities, including review of RTO/ISO study results, interconnection requests, and associated technical requirements.
  • Assist with production cost modeling, market evaluations, and economic assessments to support project screening and development activities.
  • Develop and maintain power system models and perform simulations using industry-standard planning tools.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and study documentation that clearly communicate findings, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Support technical due diligence efforts for potential project opportunities and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, and external organizations to support project development and execution.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and transmission planning activities relevant to NGV projects.
  • Support permitting, siting, and stakeholder engagement activities by providing technical input when required.
  • Work effectively within a cross-functional and matrixed environment involving teams across National Grid's US and UK businesses.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field. Concentration in Power Systems preferred.
  • Experience performing transmission planning, interconnection, or power system studies.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis techniques including power flow, contingency analysis, and stability studies.
  • Familiarity with one or more transmission markets including ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, or MISO.
  • Experience using industry planning and modeling tools such as PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, PROMOD, Aurora, or similar applications.
  • Ability to interpret technical study results and communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with large data sets and utilizing common analytical tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within project teams.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, and transmission project development.
  • Understanding of generator interconnection processes and transmission planning practices.
  • Interest in generator interconnection, competitive transmission, and emerging energy technologies.
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.

Salary

New England, MA $134,000 - $157,000 a year

Downstate NY $143,000 - $168,000 a year
