Summary:

Join our highly skilled Cardiovascular Services team and play a critical role in delivering life-saving cardiac care. As a Cardio Invasive Specialist, you will provide advanced technical and patient care support during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Working alongside cardiologists, electrophysiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will assist with procedures such as cardiac catheterizations, coronary interventions, peripheral vascular procedures, and other specialized cardiovascular treatments. You will be responsible for preparing patients and equipment, monitoring patient status throughout procedures, operating specialized cardiovascular imaging and monitoring systems, and helping ensure the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities:

Clinical & Procedural Support

  • Perform technical and patient care functions in the Cardiovascular Laboratory during diagnostic and interventional procedures for adult cardiac patients.

  • Independently function in the roles of Scrub Technologist, Monitoring/Recording Technologist, and, after obtaining RCIS or RCES certification, Circulator with medication and IV responsibilities.

  • Anticipate procedural needs based on patient condition, cardiovascular anatomy, pathophysiology, and procedural requirements to support safe, efficient case progression.

  • Respond appropriately during emergent situations and provide critical support during urgent and life-saving interventions.

Procedures Performed

  • Diagnostic and interventional coronary angiograms

  • Left Heart Catheterizations (LHC)

  • Right Heart Catheterizations (RHC)

  • Pericardiocentesis

  • Valve studies

  • Temporary transvenous pacemaker insertion and management

Advanced Technology & Equipment

Work with leading cardiovascular technologies, including:

  • ACIST

  • OCT

  • SHOCKWAVE

  • ROTAPRO

  • IVUS

Cross-Training & Professional Development

  • Opportunity to expand skills through training in the recovery and post-procedure care of noninvasive cardiovascular patients.

  • Participate in orientation and training of new team members and serve as a clinical resource for staff.

  • Function as a super user and subject matter expert for designated equipment, procedures, or emerging technologies.

Quality, Documentation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely procedural documentation within electronic health record and cardiovascular information systems.

  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives, data collection, audits, and departmental performance metrics.

  • Support compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Maintain adherence to infection prevention, radiation safety, environmental, and patient safety standards.

Operations & Team Support

  • Assist with inventory management, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, and overall readiness of procedure rooms.

  • Support laser, radiation, wellness, and departmental safety initiatives as assigned.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully prepared procedural environment.

  • Participate in department meetings, shared governance activities, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Foster positive working relationships with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Advanced Practice Expectations

  • Independently circulate, scrub, and record Adult Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology procedures.

  • Develop and maintain competency in at least two additional specialty service areas, which may include:

    • Electrophysiology (EP)

    • Cardiac Devices

    • Vascular Intervention

    • Structural Heart

    • Neuro Intervention

    • Pediatric Cardiology

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational goals.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Associate degree in an Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Cardiopulmonary Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), or a related healthcare field required.

  • In lieu of an associate degree, three (3) additional years of directly related cardiovascular laboratory experience may be substituted.

Certification Requirements

  • Current Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification preferred.

  • Candidates not currently certified must:

    • Be registered for the RCIS examination within 18 months of hire and successfully obtain certification within two (2) years of employment.

    • For Electrophysiology (EP) roles, be registered for the RCES examination within 30 months of hire and successfully obtain certification within three (3) years of employment.

Life Support Certifications

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six (6) months of hire.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Electrophysiology Lab, Structural Heart Program, Vascular Lab, or other invasive cardiovascular setting preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, hemodynamics, invasive monitoring, and cardiovascular procedures.

  • Experience operating advanced cardiovascular imaging and interventional technologies preferred.

  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity procedural environment.

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient care skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members during complex cardiovascular procedures.
