The Role

As a Coding Specialist, you will independently review and code professional fee services while ensuring compliance with coding regulations, payer requirements, and documentation standards. This role requires strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately interpret specialty documentation across podiatry, wound care, and rheumatology services. Your work will directly influence coding quality, reimbursement integrity, operational performance, and the overall financial health of patient care services.

In an average day, you will:

• Independently code Evaluation & Management (E/M) visits and minor procedure clinic encounters across specialty practice settings.

• Apply advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, NCCI edits, and global surgery rules to ensure compliant charge capture and coding accuracy.

• Review clinical documentation related to foot and ankle disorders, wound care services, arthritis, rheumatologic diseases, injections, aspirations, and other specialty procedures.

• Evaluate diagnosis specificity, laterality, anatomical detail, medical necessity, and payer requirements.

• Identify documentation gaps and determine when provider clarification or queries are appropriate.

• Distinguish between planned and performed services to ensure coding compliance.

• Manage charge review and coding work queues within Epic and EncoderPro environments.

• Research and apply current guidance from CPT, ICD-10-CM, LCD/NCD, and payer-specific policies.

• Collaborate with physicians, operational leaders, and coding colleagues to support coding quality, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: 2+ years of relevant coding experience required.

Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
