Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Duration: 3+ Months (Contract to Possible Hire)

Location: 6901 Medical Pkwy, Waco, TX

Work Setting: Onsite - Outpatient Hospital Laboratory

Shift: 8 am - 5 pm


Job Summary

The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing venipuncture, specimen collection, and specimen processing while ensuring patient safety, specimen integrity, and compliance with laboratory protocols. This role requires delivering excellent patient care in a fast-paced outpatient environment and supporting daily laboratory operations.


Responsibilities


  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.



  • Draw blood from approximately 30 patients per day while maintaining patient comfort and safety.



  • Collect blood and other specimens following established laboratory procedures.



  • Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, packaging, and preparing samples for transport.



  • Verify patient information, laboratory requisitions, and specimen labels for accuracy.



  • Maintain specimen integrity by following proper handling, storage, and transportation procedures.



  • Process laboratory orders and accurately update patient information in the system.



  • Collect patient payments, including credit card transactions, when required.



  • Explain specimen collection procedures and answer patient questions professionally.



  • Follow physician orders and laboratory testing protocols.



  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while complying with OSHA and laboratory safety standards.



  • Assist with laboratory-related phone inquiries and administrative tasks.



  • Participate in required departmental training and competency assessments.




Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED.



  • Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience.



  • Experience performing venipuncture in a fast-paced outpatient, laboratory, or hospital setting.



  • Ability to perform approximately 30 blood draws per day.



  • Eligible to work for both LabCorp and Ascension.



  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.



  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with laboratory documentation systems.



  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).




Preferred Qualifications


  • Pediatric phlebotomy experience.



  • Previous clinical or outpatient laboratory experience.



  • Experience processing laboratory specimens.



  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and quality procedures.



  • Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative team environment.




Work Environment


  • Setting: Outpatient Hospital Laboratory



  • Patient Volume: Approximately 30 blood draws per day



  • Team Environment: Team-based



  • Training: 2 weeks



  • Standing Requirement: Up to 8 hours per shift
