THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is searching for a motivated Mechanic Supervisor who is ready to take charge of essential operations at Wernersville State Hospital. In this role, you maintain critical equipment, lead a skilled team, and keep key services running with strength and reliability. Your work supports safe transportation, timely deliveries, and well cared for hospital grounds. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position manages the Garage and Grounds sections to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient hospital services. As a Mechanic Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Garage Oversight: Manage maintenance, repairs, inspections, and overall operations for the hospital fleet
  • Grounds Management: Direct mowing, trimming, snow removal, and upkeep of roads, parking areas, trees, and shrubs
  • Delivery Coordination: Organize daily food and laundry transport according to established schedules
  • Contract Monitoring: Evaluate service and fuel contracts and track their usage and compliance
  • Inventory Control: Maintain detailed records of parts, tires, and equipment to meet agency requirements
  • Staff Supervision: Assign work, guide employees, review work through on-site visits several times daily, and reinforce safety standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
  • You must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
