THE POSITION

As an Accountant 3 with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, you will take on a key role in managing financial operations at the Southwestern Veterans Center. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role oversees the accounting operations for the Southwestern Veterans Center, including budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting. The work supports informed decisions and ensures accurate financial management. As an Accountant 3, you will perform the following duties:

  • Budget Management: Prepare budgets, monitor balances, and provide financial updates to support decisions
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare statements and worksheets for special funds and monthly reviews
  • Audit Support: Participate in audits, review fiscal operations, and prepare findings reports
  • Procurement Oversight: Review invoices, assign codes, and resolve vendor and purchase order issues
  • Ledger Maintenance: Maintain journals, supervise staff entries, and ensure accurate account postings
  • Safety Compliance: Identify hazards, report incidents, and follow general safety rules

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Accountant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
