Civil Engineering Designer | Missoula, MT

IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Designer in Missoula, Montana. In this role, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, supporting engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design.You will also support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. Based on a team serving land development and transportation work across western Montana, this role contributes to resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design.

  • Prepare water and sewer system designs for smaller private and larger municipal systems.

  • Prepare grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.

  • Perform surface modeling, watershed modeling, storm sewer design, and sanitary sewer design.

  • Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.

  • Support consulting project execution, including project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives.

  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.

  • Analyze low to moderate complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.

  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.

  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of engineering work, apply state and local design criteria to specific project needs, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

What You'll Bring

Required

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

Experience

  • 1 year of experience minimum in the building design consulting industry required

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions as quickly as possible

  • Developing proficiency of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenge

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays

Preferred

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) license preferred

  • Transportation, bridge inspection, surveying, and water-resources experience

  • Hydraulics, stormwater, and municipal engineering for county and city clients

  • Environmental permitting and utility coordination across the region

  • Recent work includes Grants Meadows O&M, Housing; Peak Water System O&M, Commercial; and Watson Water System O&M, Corporate/Workplace.
