Job Details

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provides specific patient careandenvironmentof careduties on the Postpartum unitbeforeand after procedures tofacilitatesafe patient outcomes under the direction oftheregistered nurse.

SHIFT:

  • 8-hour shifts,
  • 5a-1:30p.
  • Every other weekend. Rotating holidays

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs patient care duties that contribute to the efficient, safe operations of the unit which may include but are not limited to:

  • Assistingpatient care team in the transfer of patient
  • Assistingpatient care team in positioning patientfor intended procedure
  • Transporting of the patient to and fromProcedure Area
  • Setting upnecessaryprocedureequipment and supplies

Provides necessary equipment/supplies for the patient care team which may include but not limited to:

  • Restockingprocedure roomsuppliesand equipment
  • Reviewsinventory ofpar level of supplies
  • Providesappropriate equipment/suppliesneeded in the roomduringProcedureArearoomsetup
  • Obtainsnecessarytrays, supplies, and equipmentneeded for the procedure

Performscleaning procedures which may include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning ProcedureArea
  • Cleaning specialty equipment/instrumentation
  • Returning usedsuppliesand instrument sets appropriately
  • Appropriately handling contaminated instrument trays,supplies,equipment, linens, specimens, and body fluids.

Additionalresponsibilities include:

  • Completingequipment quality controls
  • Troubleshoots minor equipment problems and initiates service calls for broken equipment as needed
  • Demonstrateknowledge, skills, and abilities to safely provideage-appropriatecare to the patients served, under the direction of the RN
  • Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifiesregistered nurse
  • Practices professional etiquette
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstratesproficiencyin required computer programs
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering toestablisheddepartmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor,in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors
  • Completes mandatory in-service education

Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, volunteers, students, and members of the healthcare team both internal and external

Receives direction from RN staff

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Computer skills

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to apply CCHS Core Values to daily activities
  • Knowledge of CCHS policies and procedures. Keeps up to date with departmental and system wide changes
  • Completes mandatory inservice education and web-based training.
  • Maintains professional appearance wearing Christiana Care scrubs when appropriate
  • Knowledge of PCT responsibilities related to emergency procedures (Code blue, Code red, Code delta, NICU alert, OBERT)
  • Knowledge and application of CCHS telephone and paging systems. Responsible for Christiana Care issued iPhone. Consistently available for Vocera paging and Capacity Management programs.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to act independently within established guidelines
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to reason, prioritize, solve and identify problems
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interdepartmental working relationships
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and materials
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates multiple/simultaneous projects
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to operate a hospital computer system and other equipment in an accurate and safe manner.
  • Knowledge of software programs and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of CCHS computer systems. Electronic medical health record, and programs used in department

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to work flexible hours for training and support of the needs of the unit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, climb, as per unit-based Physical Demands checklist.

Frequent transport of stretchers, beds, wheelchairs

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Procedure area and general patient care environment. Occasional exposure to chemical and environmental elements as per unit-based Physical Demands checklist.

Hourly Pay Range: $19.10 - $27.69 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
