Hours & Location
  • Location: Commack Outpatient Facility, 650 Commack Rd, Commack, NY 11725
  • Shifts available: Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, and 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Please indicate all shifts you are available for in your application.

Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers support the Radiation Oncology care team by assisting with patient flow, communication, and comfort, helping ensure a smooth, welcoming, and well-coordinated clinic experience.


As a volunteer, you may:
  • Support patient flow by escorting patients and providing general navigation assistance throughout the facility.
  • Assist with communication between patients, front desk staff, nurses, radiation therapists, and other care team members.
  • Support front desk operations by updating patients on wait times, providing changing room instructions, and escorting patients to appointments.
  • Help with patient rooming and wheelchair transport.
  • Provide non-clinical comfort items such as warm blankets, water, or ice.
  • Keep the clinic stocked with necessary supplies, including replenishing blankets and patient comfort items.
  • Help staff maintain a clean and organized environment by tidying patient changing areas, wiping down equipment with approved cleaning products, and moving patient support equipment as directed.

Who We're Looking For
  • Age 16 or older
  • Able to commit to a weekly 3-hour shift for at least 6 months
  • Former or current MSK patients must be out of active treatment for at least one year
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable interacting with patients and caregivers in a healthcare environment
  • Dependable, compassionate, and committed to providing exceptional service

Onboarding Process (Average 4-6 Weeks)
  • Virtual interview (based on scheduling needs and program fit)
  • 2-3 reference checks
  • Background check and drug screen (18+ only)
  • Medical clearance (flu and other immunizations required; at applicant's expense)

To remain active in the volunteer onboarding process, all requirements must be completed within 4-6 weeks. Applications with outstanding onboarding items for more than 30 days may be closed.

This is an unpaid volunteer position. The Volunteer Resources Department does not oversee paid employment, internships, shadowing opportunities, or educational programs. Our program is designed to provide meaningful, long-term volunteer experiences that support patients, caregivers, and staff.
