The Forklift Operator I at the river terminal is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, transport, and store cargo at the terminal. This role plays a critical part in maintaining smooth terminal operations, ensuring timely processing of goods, and adhering to safety protocols. What you will be doing:
- Safely operatingup to a 16k a forklift to move and stack cargo, containers, and goods in the terminal yard.
- Assisting in the loading and unloading of cargo from vessels, trucks, and rail cars.
- Operatingand maintaining terminal equipment such as conveyors, and door gun, barge loader spout, and hard car probe at all terminal facilities.
- Ensuringthat cargo is properly secured and organized for transport or storage.
- Assisting with opening and closing barge cover access doors, and/or removing and resetting barge cover tops.
- Monitoring and communicatingwith barge drafter or crane operator.
- Performing routine checks on equipment and reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Following safety protocols and ensuringcompliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work area, including dock areas, warehouse spaces, and cargo storage areas.
- Communicatingeffectively with supervisors, coworkers, and vessel crew members to ensure smooth operations.
- Assisting with inventory, including tracking cargo and reporting discrepancies.
- Performing general labor tasks such as cleaning, sorting, and organizing goods, tools, and supplies.
- Cleaning product from pits, barge decks and barge covers, and other areas as necessary.
- Working in varying weather conditions and maintaining physical stamina throughout shifts.
- Performing any other reasonable task as requested.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Operate up to a 16k forklift
Physical activities that are essential to daily functions include but are not limited to: 1) regularly lifting loads up to 50lbs unassisted and occasionally up to 75lbs. 2) Climbing of ladders over 20' of vertical height while using fall protection. 3) Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling and reaching.

- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, if necessary.

- Ability to stand, walk, and work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Preferences/Requirements:
- Degree Required: High School diploma or equivalent
- Years of Experience Required: Previous experience in a warehouse, dock, or terminal environment is a plus.
- Certification Required: Yes

Working Environment & Conditions:
- Outdoor/indoor working environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, and potentially hazardous materials.
- Shift work may be required, including weekends or holidays, depending on the operation schedule.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
