Job Description

Key Role Description



The Rotating Equipment Planner plans the execution of maintenance and turnaround jobs for their functional (craft) area in the refinery. Coordinates the resources between relevant disciplines and communicates progress to all affected parties. Develops maintenance plan and activity break down of jobs. Identifies and arranges resource requirements (Tools, Special tools, spares, consumables, services, etc.)

Technical Knowledge - demonstrates the specific skills necessary for the assignments, understands the background and points of leverage to be effective in the role.



  • Performs initial job screening, analyses job requirements, conducts job research and builds detailed job plans.
  • Assists in the development of reliability based maintenance strategies based on preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Selects and describes the most efficient, safest and optimal way to complete the maintenance and / or turnaround work.
  • Assembles comprehensive planned job packages containing:

    • Detailed work order(s) listing required crafts, material and outside resources if needed.
    • Job plan detail by task.
    • BOM
    • Develops duration estimates and schedules
    • Prints, sketches, photos, special procedures, specifications, sizes, tolerances, and other technical references that the assigned crew may have need for when completing to work order.
    • Assures that all parts needed for a job are available and anticipates materials that should be stocked on site for future work.





Knowledge of Work Areas and Responsibilities - demonstrates a clear understanding of role and responsibilities within specific area, flexible and agile in adapting to changes or exploring opportunities and challenges.




  • Create follow up work orders as needed based on information provided by field execution and communicate new work order status to all affected parties.
  • Assist Execution on procuring parts & material for EWO's as needed.
  • Enter Contract Requests Forms; this includes New, Renewals and Amendments.
  • Enter Security Forms as needed; this includes New Contractor Site Training and Vehicle Drive in Requests
  • Enters Storehouse Forms for Inventory Management; this includes Stock & Non Stock Additions and Obsoletions, Stock & Non-Stock Changes (material upgrade, description change, Item Master to Stock change
  • Is the custodian for all Rotating Equipment BOM's: responsible for Stock & Item Master additions and removals, description changes, vendor and part number changes / upgrades, ensuring the correct quantity required for a particular item is correct on the BOM along with managing the required ROP / EOQ points.
  • Holds bi-weekly backlog meeting with Execution, Reliability, OMC.
  • Assures regulatory requirements that fail testing are repaired (where possible) and retested within the set timeline.
  • Participates in Pre-job Planning and Safety Reviews for high-risk work activities.
  • Ensures ongoing data integrity of assets; e.g., model name, material changes, etc. are documented in the document system.
  • Responsible for updating CMMS data on assets and material.
  • Participates in turnaround and project planning process and reviews work lists and priorities.
  • Achieves safety performance by completing safety audits, hazard and unsafe work identification, reporting, and correction; promotes good housekeeping.
  • Participates when required in MOC, PHA, and PSSR process to review safety and operating concerns and develops responsibility and verifies completion.

Experience and Skills

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements



Minimum Qualifications:



  • 8-15 years crafts experience in high-risk industry such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing.
  • High School Diploma required; BS or Associates Degree preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, & working a CMMS
  • Primavera P6 experience a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Role Specific Competencies.
