  • Salary Range - 80,000 to 85,000

LAUKOA is seeking to hire a full-time Technical Writer - Occupational Safety & Aircraft Maintenance to provide Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) in support of the Air Force Occupational Safety mission at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This position supports the Air Force Occupational Safety & Health (AFSOSH) Division by developing, revising, and maintaining technical safety documentation, policies, reports, and occupational health guidance while supporting aircraft maintenance and flightline safety programs.

Technical Writer - Occupational Safety & Aircraft Maintenance Support should be:



  • Knowledgeable in technical writing, editing, and document management principles.
  • Skilled in interpreting technical information and translating complex safety requirements into clear, concise documentation.
  • Able to communicate effectively with engineers, safety professionals, maintenance personnel, and government stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable in Air Ground Operations (AGO).
  • Knowledgeable in Air Force flightline operations and aircraft maintenance environments.
  • Knowledgeable of aircraft maintenance procedures, vehicle operations, and maintenance safety practices.
  • Knowledgeable of shop machinery design, material handling procedures, and compressed gas safety.


Provide support for ongoing traffic and occupational safety activities and research efforts:



  • Research, develop, edit, and maintain technical manuals, safety instructions, operating procedures, policies, and occupational health documentation.
  • Develop and revise safety and occupational health instructions, rules, regulations, and guidance documents in accordance with Air Force standards.
  • Evaluate and document causal factors contributing to mishaps, incidents, and hazardous working conditions.
  • Prepare technical reports, investigative summaries, recommendations, and corrective action documentation.
  • Identify unsafe operations and hazardous conditions and communicate findings through detailed written reports and recommendations.
  • Review existing technical documentation for accuracy, consistency, clarity, and compliance with Air Force and OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to ensure technical documentation accurately reflects operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Support ongoing safety research initiatives by documenting findings, lessons learned, and recommended process improvements.


Education



  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


Qualifications/Certifications



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 (T-1) Background Investigation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated professional technical writing, editing, and document control experience.
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of office management systems, documentation standards, and records management procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of technical writing, occupational safety, aircraft maintenance, or related experience.

    • Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Air Force organizations is highly desirable.
