The Role

As a Coding Quality Specialist 2, you will work within UVA Health's Professional Physician Coding team, serving as a subject matter expert responsible for reviewing clinical documentation, assigning accurate professional service codes, and ensuring compliance with payer and regulatory requirements across multiple physician specialties.

This role offers exposure to a wide variety of coding scenarios and clinical service lines while providing the opportunity to develop specialty-specific expertise in a dynamic academic medical environment. You will work independently while collaborating regularly with providers, revenue cycle teams, compliance partners, and operational leaders.

A typical day may include:

• Reviewing provider documentation and assigning accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes

• Ensuring coding compliance with federal, regulatory, and payer-specific guidelines

• Researching and resolving coding-related claim edits and billing exceptions

• Investigating denials and submitting coding corrections when appropriate

• Supporting charge capture accuracy and documentation improvement efforts

• Communicating with providers and operational partners regarding coding questions and best practices

• Participating in coding quality reviews, education initiatives, and team meetings

• Managing assigned work queues while meeting productivity, accuracy, and turnaround time expectations

• Contributing to workflow improvements that enhance coding quality and operational performance
