What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for network validation, troubleshooting, activation readiness, and infrastructure quality within assigned projects or work areas.
  • Independently execute and lead advanced network validation activities across Front-End Network (FENW), Back-End Network (BENW), structured cabling infrastructure, fiber optic systems, and network hardware.
  • Lead technical investigations involving:
    • Multi-circuit failures
    • Recurring infrastructure deficiencies
    • Customer escalations
    • Network activation delays
    • Complex connectivity issues
    • Quality trends
    • Commissioning deficiencies
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting utilizing engineering drawings, one-line diagrams, splice documentation, network architecture, customer standards, and project documentation.
  • Conduct comprehensive root cause analysis to identify installation deficiencies, workmanship concerns, material issues, documentation discrepancies, equipment failures, and systemic network problems.
  • Evaluate and interpret advanced fiber optic testing including:
    • Optical Loss Test Sets (OLTS)
    • Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
    • Optical Power Meters (OPM)
    • Visual Fault Locators (VFL)
    • Digital Fiber Inspection Scopes
    • Loopback testing
    • Permanent Link testing
    • Channel validation
    • End-to-end circuit testing
  • Analyze OTDR traces to identify:
    • Reflection events
    • Connector losses
    • Splice losses
    • Macrobends
    • Fiber breaks
    • Excessive attenuation
    • Installation defects
    • Network degradation
  • Interpret and validate customer-specific loss budgets including:
    • ISP Permanent Link
    • OSP
    • Channel
    • Loopback
    • Customer-specific acceptance criteria
  • Analyze and interpret BERT results, Forward Error Correction (FEC), Bit Error Rate (BER), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), port statistics, and network performance indicators to support commissioning and customer acceptance.
  • Verify network infrastructure readiness for customer activation through comprehensive validation of:
    • Physical installation
    • Asset management
    • Documentation
    • Testing
    • Connectivity
    • Labeling
    • Equipment configuration readiness
    • Quality compliance
  • Review customer documentation and testing packages for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to turnover.
  • Perform advanced remediation activities within documented authorization boundaries while ensuring all corrective actions are properly documented and validated.
  • Coordinate technical troubleshooting efforts involving multiple technicians, specialists, trade partners, and customer representatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Hyperscale Network Specialist I and II personnel through formal and informal training, field demonstrations, and technical problem-solving.
  • Assist Hyperscale Lead Technicians with technical planning, work sequencing, prioritization of audit activities, and resource allocation.
  • Support customer walkdowns, quality audits, commissioning events, integrated systems testing, and turnover activities.
  • Participate in customer coordination meetings to provide technical recommendations regarding network quality, testing, remediation strategies, and activation readiness.
  • Identify recurring quality issues, installation trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement while recommending corrective actions to project leadership.
  • Support development and implementation of standardized audit procedures, technical work instructions, quality initiatives, and best practices across projects.
  • Maintain advanced proficiency utilizing customer software platforms including:
    • FIM
    • CableGuy
    • UTP
    • Customer ticketing platforms
    • Asset management systems
    • Network documentation systems
    • Quality reporting tools
  • Review testing documentation generated by Level I and II personnel for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain calibration awareness and operational readiness of advanced testing equipment.
  • Support customer acceptance by ensuring assigned work areas meet all contractual, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, manufacturer training, customer certification programs, and emerging technology initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project objectives and customer requirements.
  • Travel: The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2 Optics.



What We Are Looking For

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • OSHA 10 required.
  • Completion of all required customer onboarding and project-specific training.
  • Successful completion of customer qualification requirements and technical authorization programs.

Experience

  • 4-6+ years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, fiber optics, network infrastructure, mission critical construction, or hyperscale data center environments.
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing advanced network validation, testing, troubleshooting, and remediation.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale commissioning, turnover, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Experience mentoring technical personnel and serving as a technical resource for project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex network infrastructure issues.

Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of structured cabling systems, fiber optic infrastructure, network hardware, and hyperscale data center architecture.
  • Thorough understanding of Front-End Network (FENW) and Back-End Network (BENW) infrastructure.
  • Advanced knowledge of customer network standards, installation practices, and commissioning requirements.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/TIA standards, BICSI best practices, and manufacturer installation requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fiber optic connector types, network topology, structured cabling architecture, and network deployment methodologies.

Testing & Diagnostic Skills

  • Expert operation of OLTS, OTDR, OPM, VFL, and Digital Fiber Inspection equipment.
  • Advanced interpretation of OTDR traces and fiber optic testing results.
  • Ability to evaluate customer loss budgets and determine compliance.
  • Ability to analyze BERT, BER, FEC, SNR, and network performance indicators.
  • Ability to identify systemic failures through testing analysis and infrastructure validation.
  • Strong root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting capability.

Documentation & Systems

  • Advanced proficiency utilizing customer documentation platforms, ticketing systems, quality reporting tools, and asset management systems.
  • Ability to review technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to prepare customer-ready testing packages and turnover documentation.
  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements supporting customer activation and commissioning.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This role requires sitting, use of hands and arms, verbal communication, and occasional physical movement such as stooping or kneeling. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. Must be able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so. The employee may also be required to work in tight and confined spaces.
