Job Title: Lead Case Worker

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Corps Officer

Schedule: 40W M-F 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Supervises: n/a

Rate of Pay: $20.00

Closing Date: 07/23/2026

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Position Summary

The Lead Caseworker functions as Team Leader for the caseworkers of The Salvation Army Salt Lake City Corps. Alongside caseworkers, they handle assistance inquiries for utilities, rent, furniture, emergency and seasonal assistances. As Lead, they authorize the eligibility of clients for assistance, troubleshoot escalated client inquiries, and ensure accurate reporting of casework. The Lead Caseworker communicates team needs, concerns, and suggestions for procedural changes to the corps officers.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Communicate effectively with staff, clients, interns, volunteers and other agency providers about
  • Social Services programs and requirements, providing referrals and resources to clients seeking
  • additional services
  • Set priorities and complete assistances (utilities, emergency assistance, etc.) for clients in a time sensitive
  • manner
  • Work with Social Service team to suggest and implement strategies that will maximize program
  • effectiveness
  • Train new caseworkers and interns on how to complete tasks within department, how to input
  • data entry, and maintain records
  • Ensure departmental resource lists are kept up-to-date
  • Maintain timely documentation and record-keeping duties
  • Attend all staff meetings as assigned
  • Performs all other duties as assigned



Education/Experience, Skills, Qualities, Requirements



  • High school diploma or G.E.D required. Work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required.


  • Commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Strong communication and people skills, including patience and compassion for clients experiencing
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through email about programs and assistances.
  • Demonstrated history of providing effective case management services.
  • Competent in working independently within clear parameters in a team environment.
  • Able to respect cultural, social, socioeconomic and racial differences.
  • Effective stress coping skills and setting of personal boundaries.
  • Bilingual Spanish (preferred).
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email, and ability to quickly learn job-specific online portal and platforms.


Requirements



  • Driving


If the position requires driving:



  • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver's license
  • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies


  • Background Check

    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies


  • Physical

    • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information
