Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking an Archivist to support the digital preservation of analog and digital archival materials at NASA. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Appraise, process, preserve, and provide access to analog and digital archival materials.
  • Support digital preservation functions including processing and transformation of digital objects, and capture of metadata, and utilization of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model as a standard for digital preservation.
  • Document and follow archival processes, workflows and best practices.
  • Coordinate and facilitate archives access requests by users as well as responding to information inquiries and reference requests.
  • Generate routine and/or ad-hoc reports for OCOMM management/OCOMM customers.


Qualifications

0-5 years experience in research and analysis. Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited program with a concentration in information science, archives management, or digital curation. Demonstrated knowledge of both physical and digital archives, electronic record management and digital preservation practice. Familiar with metadata and technical standards relevant to archival collections (e.g., DACS, DublinCore, ISAD(G). Maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of digital file formats, digital preservation, and digital persistence practice and theory. Proficient at computer-based methods for data-retrieval, manipulation and presentation of data from large, complex databases. Must be customer and results-oriented; proactive; and highly detail-oriented/organized. Proficient in MS Office and internet research. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required along with having proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Able to multitask and operate in dynamic environments. Must be a US citizen.
