THE POSITION

The Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation offers an exciting chance to apply your analytical skills in a meaningful way. This role lets you examine properties, study market trends, and contribute to important highway projects. You will grow your expertise while working closely with owners, attorneys, and appraisal professionals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports highway improvement projects by researching property details, conducting site visits, and developing fair and accurate appraisals. It ensures that land acquisitions meet legal standards and reflect true market conditions. As a Real Estate Appraiser, you will perform the following duties:

  • Property Research: Review ownership records, deed descriptions, and zoning information to understand property details
  • Field Evaluation: Visit properties to inspect conditions, interview owners, and gather essential information
  • Valuation Methods: Determine appropriate appraisal approaches and analyze comparable sales and market trends
  • Report Preparation: Develop complete appraisal reports, update valuations, and provide documentation for hearings
  • Legal Support: Testify at hearings, assist staff attorneys and supply information for claim settlements
  • Technical Guidance: Support project teams by reviewing appraisals and advising on policy compliance

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser certification.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
