A Brief Overview

The Director, Rainbow Primary Care Institute serves as a key strategic partner with broad responsibility across a large, complex health system. This role oversees the strategic direction, clinical operations, financial and human resources, revenue cycle, performance improvement, and overall leadership of the Community Pediatric Practices. Responsibilities include collaborating on system wide strategy, expanding market presence, and defining care models that support operational excellence. The Director also identifies performance gaps, leads root-cause analysis, implements improvement plans, and establishes clinical standards to ensure consistency in patient experience and quality of care throughout the UH continuum. This position reports to the Vice President of Medical Based Services and works closely with the President of Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, Department Chairs, COOs, other Directors within UHPS and Hospital entities, and other senior leaders across the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Leads the development and execution of strategic business plans to drive growth and service expansion across Main Campus, Community Hospitals, Ambulatory Sites, and external partnership opportunities.
  • Uses comprehensive decision-support, market intelligence, and financial analysis to prioritize strategic objectives, assess profitability, and guide executive decision-making.
  • Oversees system wide analytics and reporting, ensuring data integrity and delivering actionable insights that inform planning, performance, and growth initiatives.
  • Maintains deep knowledge of healthcare trends, emerging technologies, population needs, and industry dynamics, evaluating opportunities for clinical innovation and financial feasibility.
  • Collaborates with VP, as well as other leaders on funding, managed care strategy, workforce planning, budgeting, and capital projects to support long-term sustainability and growth.
  • Contributes to system wide policy development, program planning, quality improvement, and resource optimization in partnership with clinical, administrative, and operational leaders.
  • Builds strong partnerships with multidisciplinary teams to expand services, grow volume, and launch new or innovative clinical programs across the continuum of care.
  • Applies advanced problem-solving and process-improvement expertise to strengthen cross-functional operations and enhance clinical and business performance.
  • Develops comprehensive business plans aligned with organizational goals, incorporating market analysis, financial modeling, and operational requirements.
  • Provides operational leadership for select hospital and community-based services, with full P&L accountability, charge capture oversight, and tactical planning responsibilities.
  • Establishes and monitors goals, performance benchmarks, and success indicators, implementing strong internal controls for professional services and service agreements.
  • Partners with system resources to set productivity expectations, oversee billing and revenue cycle processes, and monitor performance against targets.
  • Ensures high-quality, patient-centered care delivery and champions continuous improvement in clinical outcomes and service excellence.
  • Ensures full compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and ethical standards, maintaining current knowledge of requirements impacting clinical operations.
  • Oversees large-scale financial management, including annual budget development, variance analysis, and expense stewardship for multiple departments.
  • Leads high-performing teams through clear expectations, coaching, feedback, and development opportunities that build capability and engagement.
  • Partners with the Vice President and Human Resources on talent strategy, including succession planning, workforce capability assessment, and alignment of team development with organizational priorities.
