Description
Under the general supervision of the Director, the Anatomical Preparation Specialist supports the daily operations of the Donated Body Program (DBP) by providing anatomical preparation, technical, educational, and administrative expertise. Ensures the ethical management and regulatory compliance of anatomical materials used for medical education and research. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Procure, prepare,
quality-control, store, and allocate anatomical materials for educational and research purposes. - Maintain a perpetual inventory
of body donors, specimens, prosections, and related teaching collections. - Manage and maintain records
related to the storage, care, distribution, reclamation, and final disposition of anatomical materials. - Provide training and guidance
to end users and assist in developing processes for anatomical material requests. - Support the evaluation and
prioritization of requests for anatomical materials and assist with overall DBP operations. - Ensure compliance with all
applicable state and federal laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and University policies. - Assist in maintaining program
compliance with system-wide and local University requirements. - Provide oversight of all UCLA
and approved off-campus sites utilizing human anatomical materials. - Conduct regular inspections of
laboratories and approved locations to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and standards.
Annual Salary Range: $86,400.00 - $184,800.00
Qualifications
Required:
- California Embalmer's License
- Minimum 2 years of related experience or training in a
mortuary or as a licensed embalming technician. - Skill in organizing tasks to meet various deadlines.
- Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the
relative importance of job responsibilities. - Knowledge of California law governing crematories, funeral
directors, embalmers, Cal-OSHA, Organ donations, California Business and Professions Code, California Code of Regulations, SB 198 - Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Death Registration, Preneed, Health and Safety, Government and Probate Codes as well as an overview knowledge with the Americans with Disabilities Act. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships with faculty, supervisors, members of the AMRC, peers, governmental regulatory agencies, and other customer/suppliers. - Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, medical
students and community regarding the use of anatomical materials. - Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability
to communicate with mutual respect and consideration for diversity among individuals. Ability to communicate with grieving families and to be sensitive to the needs and emotional state of the families of donors. - Demonstrated computer skills using database, spreadsheet
and word programs. - Must be available on a rotating basis to work evenings,
holidays and weekends as needed to respond to calls from the Answering service regarding imminent or death reports or other related Donated Body Program service issues. - Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to meet
deadlines. - Manual dexterity to perform technical duties/tasks
including lifting 50 lbs, using electric surgical or blunt dissection instruments, sharps and other instrumentation. Visual acuity sufficient to read instructions and warning labels. Hearing sufficient acuity to respond to audible instructions and alarms.
Preferred:
- California Funeral Director's License
- Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent combination of
education and experience. Graduate of Mortuary Science College. - Associate's degree and/or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
